On 1986 HEI, what would prevent the bypass signal from being sent?
At 4 pin connector (and at ECM) white and purple have signal, ground is good, but nothing on tan/black. Continuity is good back to ECM. No signal there either (even if circuit was open, shouldn't there be voltage at the beginning of the line?). Dist and ECM grounds are good. Chew on it and throw me some ideas, cause I'm fresh out. Thanks. :banghead:
I am not clear as to the interior of the ECM. Unsure what functions are grouped into each quad driver, do the dist signals go/come from a quad driver or straight from the PROM. Is this just a bad ECM, PROM, somehow a fault with the dist or maybe.....something as dumb as an open in a door ajar circuit could cause this. Need someone with more knowledge to help. There are people on this forum that know the answers. Pride keeps me from taking it to a shop, Finances are covering Pride's back on this one. I'm just the poor schmuck caught in the middle.

Re: EXTRA CREDIT QUESTION (loflyin)
You will get a better response if you make your post title a bit more descriptive. I know me, unless it's something I can add to or am interested in, I usually skip right over the topic because things are so sluggish.
Dialups suck.
It's bad enough waiting 15-20 seconds for a post to load, so most people are gonna only go with what reaches out and grabs them as worthy of loading... :chevy but sorry, I'm not too swift when it comes to the electronics side of things, probably my least favorite thing to do on the car, chasing bad grounds and stuff... :U

Tried that. This is the third time in 2 weeks that I have tried. 1st post-no one responded. 2nd post (in scan and tune) - gentleman answered some questions aboutthe values that I was gettnig and then said to get scanner and software. 3rd try - well here we are. Obviously, this is one of the tougher questions as few responses compared to views.
Try going into the corvette assembly plant site, i'm pretty sure they have a contact page. If anybody would know those guys would. Sorry i'm not going to be much help either, if it was about avionics or electricals on a blackhawk I might be some help. Keep us posted though, I want to see how it turns out :lurk:
Screamingeagle, don't think you're getting off so easy. After vette is straight, Blackhawk is now at the top of my wish list (I'll have my own personal mechanic). :D
And guys, I appreciate you taking the time to think about it. If it were an easy question, I would have known the answer. At least you have taken the time to tell me that you don't know either- way better than no response at all. I'll try the plant site, but I don't hold out much hope there. Have a great night!
Please accept my apologies if I misunderstood your post, but the ECM doesn't put 5v on D5 until engine speed reaches @400 rpm. If you're checking the tan/black wire with engine off, I dont think you will read anything. Are you having a code 42 problem. Will the distributor never go into ECM control for timing? I must have missed the previous post, so again my apologies.
