Default Track tonight.

Well I got 9 runs in tonight at street night which has no track prep. The air was about 53*, but the dew point was around 49*. Spun most of the night but was able to rangle in a 12.94 @ 109.10 with a measily 1.985 sixty foot. The other runs went from 13.0x - 13.5x between 105-109mph depending on how much I spun or bogged..

All of my first runs were getting 8.6* of knock retard in 1st gear and about 5* in 2nd and 3rd. So.... we pulled the knock sensor. The result was about a 2 tenth gain in the 330' mark. The car is still gaining just a hair over 26mph in last 1/8th which is nice to see. That first 1/8th needs work still.

Back to tuning!

I hear ya,Scorp. My 1/8 mph sucks, usually 84-85 mph,but it pulls on the backend real good.I made two runs 2 weeks ago,and ran identicle times, down to the thousands.12.866 and 12.866.Never have I done that before, and probaly wont do it again.I have yet to put a sticky tire on my car,and my 60's are always 2.1ish or on occassion,2.0ish.

Congrats Scorp, that's pretty damn good on street tires. With a sold tune I'm hoping you'll be 3 tenths quicker.

Welcome to my world. Those are similar times to what I was running at that MPH.

Kinda cool to know that there is a lot more in there with the MPH.

Thanks. Cool to know, but sucky not to be able to utilize it. Must.... abuse.... clutch..... more. :) Its that or more gear I'm afraid. Tuning alone isn't going to make it run low 12s.

It is a total mindf*** to for people who kill me at the track running low 12s in automatics, but then if we meet up on the highway for the ride home I leave them like there is no tomorrow.

I'm getting sick of answering the "oh that was on the bottle" question with "Nope, can you find a bottle?". The solenoids and wiring is all there, but I refuse to run it until I'm happy with the car N/A.

I just realized something.

Compared to the last time my car ran a 12 second run the car now has.....

Heavier steel halfshafts
Heavier & Wider Rims
Heavier & Wider Tires

I also had all of my laptop gear (~20lbs) & my battery pack (~35lbs) in the car with me. So even though I was off by .56mph and .05 seconds of my best run I guess its running stronger than what it was before once the weight is factored in.

All the new components are rotating drivetrain weight, so it should certainly make a difference.

You wanna know what sucks? Bolt up a set of E.T. Streets, somehow manage to not break anything, but still only get a 1.9x 60'

I was pressing my luck far enough that day. It survived numerous 4000 RPM clutch dumps, I couldn't bring myself to launch it any harder than that. Now I REALLY can't do it since I put $14 AutoZone u-joints in the driver's side.

One day I'll have a carbon fiber driveshaft and carbon fiber half shafts. I'll have all hardened yokes / spindles and top notch u-joints. Then I'll bolt up the slicks and let it fly with a red line dump. Then it'll all be up to the tranny and the clutch. I'll either get a 1.6 60' and a LOW 12 or I'll break something trying damnit!

Oh to dream of actually having money..........

I hear ya. Autos are lucky with the torque convertor taking most of the hit. It spins up allowing the engine to stay at full torque output. Get a solid clutch that doesn't slip, better hope the tires slip. Get good tires that don't slip, better hope the clutch slips cause SOMETHING has to. :)

I'll probably have my ET Streets on the 10th and 18th at the two events I have coming up. That'll be the day to break if anything. :D

I know exactly what you mean. I took my car up for the second time since I got the bugs worked out a few weeks ago. My best MPH was 118.68 (92.17 at the 1/8th) but my best ET as only a 12.6.

I get so smoked off the line... by everything...even Dodge K cars :). I guess, like you, I need to beat the snot out of it a little more.

I think I'll go up for one last time on 10/10. It should be nice and chilly.

Hi Mike. Thats a damn strong MPH! A kid named Jose came running up to me LAST wednesday night and mentioned he had talked to you. He was totally stoked seeing your car run. :) He said he hardly ever sees L98 based cars running good. I guess he was from Lowell where it is all imports and it pisses him off, lol.

I'll be at NED for sure 10/18 for the vette/viper day. On 10/10 I'm at LVD for a track rental. I might even go to NED this saturday if I can schedule it right.

I run 115 and have managed a best of 12.79 :nonod:

I had a fun race with a friend of mine. He's got the same cam I do in his F-body. The cars are pretty much the same except he's got stock heads and a Turbo 350 with drag slicks.

I lined up and I knew he was gonna destroy me on the hole shot. The lights dropped and before I could tell that I was moving I was looking at his tail lights. Damn his 1.6 60's! The fun part is that I ran him down and he beat me by .01 of second.

We lined up again and it was pretty much the same scenario, this time I beat him by .001!!!!!!!! :hurray: :hurray:

Horsepower triumphs over traction, EVENTUALLY.
