The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
They can (rarely) develop a short in the coil either to the case or to an adjacent winding.
They can leak externally (not so rare)
The spring or pintle can break or get damaged (rare)
Particles in the fuel line can plug injector (not often as this is usually caught in the filter, either in-line or injector inlet filter.
Most of the time, the injector pintle tips get deposits baked on after shutdown. How much depends of the quality of the fuel used and driving habits.
Ultrasonic cleaning will in most cases clean the injector to almost as good as
new and in most all cases stop a leaker if build-up was the cause.
Flow testing will find any weak or broken springs and compare the flow rates between the individual injectors of a set.
Electrical coil tests will look for any shorted windings.
All in all, cleaning and testing used injectors are a sensible alternative to buying a new set. Factory GM Multecs are very expensive and the SVO's will work, but are not identical.
I depends on your budget and future plans for the engine.
GM Multec's are a noisy injector, due to the internal design and the case. Not a real issue.
