Last week I went out with my '88 Vette and in few miles the coolant was getting overheated and going out on reservoir cap.
After this I had to fill up coolant reservoir with about 1.5 litres coolant and I've cleared coolant reservoir cap and radiator cap also. Now there isn't any problem with coolant temperature.
What was the problem? Maybe thermostat or waterpump?

This happened to me also a few weeks ago; was a really hot day and I was on a club run over dirt road, travelling at about 5mph in 1st gear WITH Aircon running on MAX. Stopped to take photos and it happened; I HAD a few days earlier put too much water in overflow tank...Obviously when coolant temp gets overly hot, it expanded into tank and the extra water came out of cap vent. Yes, It LOOKS dramatic, but I now keep water at low mark when COLD and no probs since.
You should probably pull the radiator and clean the fins. They'll collect an amazing array of debris over time. Warning: be very careful with the fins, they are about as hard as aluminum foil.
