Hey guys im looking to get a rotating assembly for a 383 that i am building and i found one that includes a SCAT 4340 forged crank, SCAT 4340 forged I beam rods, and JE forged dished pistons all for 1300 how does that sound or if anyone knows where i could get a good deal.
Another question is that im building the engine for low compresion so when im ready for the supercharger i can put it on but how would the engine perform with 8.7:1 CR, such as drivabitity, relaibility, and performance without forced induction. Everyones help is appreciated, thanks :chevy
Re: Need Everyones Help With Engine Build!!! (premiervette)
Sounds like a good price to me (oversized pistons, I hope!)...
Low compression a problem? I think not...Drive any Chevy truck, they're all low compression...(I mean a *truck*, not the housewive's toys Chevy showrooms stock)...
You didn't say what cam you'd be choosing for your temp motor...With that CR, I'd get a truck cam as well (good torque for that CR)...Then pull it when you put the SC on...
Re: Need Everyones Help With Engine Build!!! (premiervette)
That sounds like a good price. The pistons, alone, are more than half that. Oversizes shouldn't affect the price. Besides, a 383, by definition, is .030" over (4.030")
Compression ratios are overrated. Your 8.7:1 will probably only give up 5 - 6% over a 10:1 engine. My Crossfire is rated at 9.0:1. I 'd be pleased if it really measured up to 8.7. Good luck, and...

With the correct cam it will drive and perform fine. LPE has a nice blower cam that works well with 215/220 duration and 530/530 lift on a 114 LSA. That cam was tested by LPE using a Vortec blower on a L98 383 using a super ram manifold. They got nearly 600 Hp out of that engine! I don't remember what heads they were using or how much boost but I beleive it was around 12 PSI. That cam will also pass emissions with no problems.

thanks for the replys guys, im thinking of getting the LPE 219 cam to match the Superram and i havent decided on my heads yet but was thinking of AFR 190's with 64cc, what does everyone think about that.
Re: Need Everyones Help With Engine Build!!! (premiervette)
Looks like you're building a motor from a bunch of parts that you're not sure works together very well. I've seen many guys buy parts and throw them together only to find that they don't work well together. Here's my advice and you can throw it out the window if it is not what you want to hear: Buy a package, heads, cam, intake, RRs, exhaust, that have known results. I'm not sure it is cost effective to partially build a motor and expect impressive results. Now the crank and assemblies may be a good deal, but I wouldn't assemble the engine until you have all the pieces, ie., supercharger and all. BTW, what do you want? 425hp, 450hp, 500plus hp? Hope this helps a little.
Re: Need Everyones Help With Engine Build!!! (Strick)
Well Strick that is not what i want to hear but that is your opinion and i dont have all the money in the world to buy everything at once, do you?
I feel that the components that i am putting together will work together well and im not trying to get some high number out of it yet, around 350-400hp on motor and ill be happy with that.
I would like it if more people would give their opinion on my combo because this is my first engine that i am building myself and i want someone with expierence to let me know what i am doing is right or wrong. thanks alot for the help guys.
