Well I got back into town Thursday and thrashed to get the cam change finished for Saturday. Towed to the track without having set the valves/timing or even starting the engine. Of course you know what happened, I spent the entire afternoon trying to get the engine to fire, multiple problems, finally fired it on the trailer(wheelsup thanks for all the help & support), real late, no runs today.
Sunday, towed to MIR and worked on the fuel system & regulator most of the morning, engine is WAY rich, DA~1400(90%). Idle is ratty and belches black smoke, plugs sooty, yuk! Decide to make a pass with 44# FP just to see what to work on next.
Felt like it left OK, pulled OK, popped a few times after the 1000' mark to the finish light.
Suprise!
1.36
6.50 @ 104.94
10.224 @ 131.75
In the pits I decide that the pops might be a lean miss in high gear so I bump the pressure to 48# and try again.
1.40
6.54 @ 104.83
10.25 @ 131.41
Guess I went the wrong way with the fuel felt soggy, lower it to 42# for grins. Go back up, next in line at the water box, starts RAINING, end of day!
Considering the lack of time/tuning & so-so-yuk air, the 10.22 shows a lot of promise. I'll keep playing with the FP & timing, but I'll need another chip(are you getting this Jesse?). How much faster can this thing go? Last Sunday in similar air I was going low 10.50s @ 128.4 So I figure this cam picked me up at least 3 tenths ET and ~ 4 MPH with no tuning.
I spoke to Bill C today, had to tell him about my new best. We got on to your car(His old one) And man o man is it impressive which level you've taken the green meanie to!!!
VERY impressive Dave...you're die hard to the empth degree! Do you sleep in that car ;)
Just for fun i ran the sim assuming the cam that Jesse is running and it cam up with 10.27 @ 130 at about 1000ft (i've always been a little low on your mph). Of course this assumes a good tune up, and it sounds like you'll go even faster when that happens.
Damn, it seems like your car responds to anything....no tuning required!!! Try crossing a few spark plug wires and see what she;ll do...
Wait a minute....are you still running open headers??????
I just re-ran the sim with open headers and it came up with 10.13 @ 133. The exhaust didn't have much of an impact on the SR setup, but apparently it does now.
The open headers gave it about 35hp more vs a 1000cfm exhaust system.
Dave, it's amazing how well your engine has responded to the miniram. These big motors work quite well with them. With a little more tuning, you will be knocking on the 9 second door.
"Yes, open headers, the firing order is 1-2-3-4-..... which ones do I cross for best results?"......Dave try going with all the even numbers first, then the odds.
Dave's next report.....
"I crossed all my wires and the car was popping like crazy. Took it for a blast and went 10.02 with flames shooting out the throttle body. Then a strapped a refrigurator to the roof and went 9.82!!!!"
I'm affaid the 'fridge might scratch the paint, so I'll pull it on the trailer and tow it for a run in the 9s! But I'm not sure my trailer meets NHRA 25.1T spec's, who makes a class 3 hitch for our cars?

You da man
Com'on man give us the details...was it a Frigid-Air or a Maytag?
