Default Thoughts on this swap???

I have a 91 convertible and I don't particularly like the L98 motor. How hard would it be to put an LS1 into my car? I am just going to buy a complete motor, tranny and computer if I do it. All you knowledgable wrenchheads let me know how hard this would be. Thanks in advance.

It can be made to work. It is a lot of time and $ to do it right. You can make an L98 outright rape a stock LS1 for less cash.

how much cash are we talking here? I have found where you can buy complete LS1s' out of wrecked cars for $2500. How much more will it take to put it in? Mounts and what else are needed?

I don't the know the specifics of your swap, but I would think with that money you could easily make your L98 spank an LS1 :yesnod:

Can't help you with the costs, but I have heard of at least two early C4's that have successfully done this swap.

I do agree that you'd be better off modding the L98. The only thing that would make this feasible is if you started with a wreck.

:iagree: Or a theft recovery. I know a guy who priced it out. Was running at the 7K mark when he said no way. Motor, trans, all the electronics, exhaust, way to much work. But if you go that route, I'd like to see it. Thanks. :chevy

I understand Paul Newmann car creations transplants LS motors onto C4 frames under C1 and C2 bodies. Maybe he can provide a little more info(???) http://www.carcreationsinc.com

Default Re: Thoughts on this swap??? (89 Paul in Cal)

Well I took out the vert with the wife today and really enjoyed driving it around so much. 80 degree weather in November in Tennessee is unheard of. She told me that she knew that I could easily spend as much money on the car as we paid for it and that got me to thinking. I believe that it would be ridiculously expensive to do that kind of swap and I don't wipe my butt with $10 bills much less $100 bills. So it would probably be much less expensive to mod the L98. I want it to stay driveable is just the thing. I was just thinking that the LS1 has 100 more HP stock and would be super dependable. How am I going to get that much HP without going into a cam and head work and the whole nine yards? I don't want to lose the dependability of my car or the 25-28 MPGs' I get driving it around. CHOICES, CHOICES
