My headlight all the sudden up and died on me today. It came up fine with no problems.. Then I go to turn the lights off and the driver's side light stays up... No clicking or clanking sound(like when the gears are stripped).. But there is a FAINT whinning sound(as if the motor is still running)... And if you play with the headlight itself, there is no slop in the rotation(as if a gear was rounded out)... So what could this lovely predicament indicate? Please and thank you in advance.
If the motor is still running, then you have a stripped gear and you need to remove the motor, buy a repacement gear and install it.
I've had them replaced a couple years ago and the symptoms were much different.. The motor would make a heck of noise as the gears were freespinning. I'm not thinking its the gears as when the gears are shot the whole light assembly will easily spin(by hand)....
The freakiest thing happend.. Today i drove home from work with the lights ON and I went to turn them off and the bad headlight WENT DOWN on its own!?! I haven't tried to see if it'll go up or down now.. but whats up with that??
