I purchased a wheel cap from them recently but I ordered the wrong Part#. They would not exchange the part because the price was not over their minimum stocking fee. I was not happy with them but they said they stated this in their purchase agreement which unfortunately I didn't read. Sooo make sure you got the correct Part # before ordering. They don't care if you screw up.
They have a catalog on their website with the following disclaimer: GMPartsDirect.com does not guarantee the accuracy of information provided within this alternate GM parts catalog, nor is GMPartsDirect.com responsible for any incorrect part numbers obtained through this alternate catalog.

Why bother to offer a catalog on their site if you have to assume the part numbers will be wrong?

I have ordered a few items from GMParts direct and I have nothing but praise to offer them. Their part number search sucks, but I usually email them and define what I want and include my vin#, they reply within hours sometimes with a diagram to ensure its the part I want. I always get my parts quick too. My local dealers WILL NOT even come close to their prices AFTER shipping/handling. My local dealers will gladly look up a part and tell me the price but they wont give out the part number, period. Not Chevy or Pontiac here in Lakeland. I recently saved $16 on a power steering hose for my Tahoe by using GMParts Direct over my local dealer and I had the part in two days.

I also have trouble with GMPD's online credit card system....
Try P&G Chevy at https://www.partszoneonline.com/index.php
The prices seem very similar to GMPD, sometimes cheaper.. And NO problems with the credit card thing!

Well Bill, you bring up a good point. Who does Superior use for shipping? At that price it is not UPS. For a fender flare for a truck, the shipping would be weight x 2 due to incompatibility with the conveyor belts.

The GMPD price is high, but more realistic for a UPS shipping charge.

My guess is that the actual shipping cost would be about $40 for UPS.

Superior may not realize it, but a package such as that may get audited and if it does, they will get backbilled for it.
I've ordered a bunch of stuff from Superior over the last several years, everything from small clips at a buck or two apiece to medium sized engine stuff, to wheels. Every single item was delivered via UPS.

There's no way that UPS would charge $40 for two fender flares. All they care about is the weight and size of the box. I shipped an entire D44 (batwing and all, not just the diff) via UPS Ground for $90. It just squeaked in under their weight and size maximums.

I ordered a tail light assembly from them for my new truck (don't ask why :bb ) It seems like I had trouble with the CC system also. If memory serves correctly, you have to enter the billing address exactly as it is printed on your monthly bills.

Other than that, they beat the dealer's prices by a bunch with shipping included.

Recent purchase by me.

Part #9768068 price I paid through a local dealership 106.80 No sales tax, no shipping.

Same part through GMPD 97.09 plus 19.42 for shipping total of 116.51

The other bad thing about GMPD if a part has just been discontinued, you can't buy it from them, even though there are some still in dealer inventory.

SBnova, you might want to check out Sam Taylor Buick Caddilac and talk to Jason Cromer if you are near Ft Walton Beach. he gives some good prices as well. In some instances better than Chris May.

I get most of my GM parts from Dal. I don't see his name much here, but he's popular among the F-body, ImpalaSS, and GM truck crowd. Saved me tons of $$$$ over the years. His email is lockitup@bright.net .

It all depends on the size. Weight isn't everything, if a package is large, but light, depending on the actual size of the box, we will charge for a 30lb package even if it only weighs one pound.

Trust me on this.

Most car dealers don't move enough volume to qualify for any of the very few discounts we give.

Just goes to show how much profit there is in the car parts business. If they can charge minimal shipping and still turn a profit, they gotta be real cheap at their cost.

Oversize boxes factor into the cost as well as weight.

From UPS.com

"A package is considered "Oversize 1" (OS1) when all of the following conditions apply:

The package's combined length and girth exceeds 84 inches.
The package's combined length and girth is equal to or less than 108 inches.
The package's actual weight is less than 30 pounds.

For each OS1 package, the billable weight is 30 pounds.

A package is considered "Oversize 2" (OS2) when all of the following conditions apply:

The package's combined length and girth exceeds 108 inches.
The package's actual weight is less than 70 pounds.

For each OS2 package, the billable weight is 70 pounds.

Length is the longest side of a package or object.
Maximum length per package is 108 inches or 270 centimeters.
Girth is the distance all the way around the package or object at its widest point perpendicular to the length.
Maximum size per package is 130 inches or 330 centimeters in length and girth combined "

Oh and BTW, I have no issues with GMpartsDirect. The shipping is higher than what I am used to. But I can deal with it.

Obviously you work for UPS. I did in the past. In my above statement I acknowledged the issue of box size.

My point was that saying it costs $40 to ship two GS fender flares is a poor example. The flares are not going to require an excessively sized box nor do they weigh a lot. If I could manage to pack and ship a complete Dana 44 (in a reinforced wooden crate no less) for less than $100, I'm confident someone who ships parts all the time could do so rather efficiently. I recently shipped a complete set of roller rockers, springs, etc in a box that would have been suitable in size for a well packaged pair of GS fender flares. It was no where near an excessively sized box. The shipping cost was under $10.

The bottom line is that GM Parts Direct sells parts at or below cost and then makes up for it in shipping charges. In the end, it's about the same as Superior or many of the other dealers.

Jim, you are correct, in the end it's all the same. Out of any internet parts sales(Superior doesn't do internet sales that I can see), GM Parts Direct is the cheapest.

I asked Chris @ Superior about pricing. Here is his response:

I have heard the rumors on the forum about pricing recently as well.
The forum discount is still the same now as it was when Jeff was here.
Nothing has changed. Everyone here should know the discount forum members
are to receive.
I have also heard that GM Parts Direct has been beating our prices on some
items.
They are selling some items at cost, but then charging more for shipping.
There isn't any thing that I can do about that. I can't sell for cost.

I hope this may clear up any questions. If anyone has any questions they can
ask for me personally and I will be more than happy to help.

Thanks,
Chris

I just wanted to let you know that the forum discount was set up for corvette specific parts and performance parts. However, I have extended it to other GM lines as well.

Thanks again,

Make sure you buy a jar of vaseline to go with your purchase to pay for shipping.

You should be able to get the same price from your local dealer. I only use gmpartsdirect to look up part numbers :D
Yeah, SERIOUSLY ... two jars of vasoline ... and even their part number look up sucks! Just use Jeff Kopp's replacement (forget his name).

I'm a little suprised at the amount of feedback this thread generated. As an update... I'm still waiting for my check via certified mail to arrive at GMParts... but more important... I'm adding Superior to my Palm Pilot address book for my next order. Not only the shipping but the added time & cost for my bank check & certified mail add up to a less than satisfied customer.

Fairly recently I called and asked for the person who took Jeff's place at Superior Chevy, Chris. Chris wasn't there so I asked the person who answered the phone, Chris' coworker, if he could help. All said and done, that place isn't any better then if I walked into my local chevy dealer so I there is no insenative for me to ever order from there.

I've ordered many parts from GMpartsdirect. Make absolutly sure you have the correct part numbers!!! Got a wrong part and I wasted a week of emails with that place cause they don't own a phone?? or can't the answer a list questions all in one email. I don't really care for that, but even with the high $$ shipping they can still be the better deal going --- and only one level of shipping. Most times I had to wait until they ordered the part from somewhere else so don't be in to much of a hurry to get your parts either.

Good luck ......
