Default GMParts Direct...

Looking for feedback/experience on placing orders with these people. Having a hell of a time using my credit card. After almost a week of fighting it :boxing I'm going to have to send them a cashiers check. EXTREMELY frustrating as this just drove up the price & extended my wait time for shipping. All for something that has worked elsewhere on the internet for years now?? To say the least I'm getting a bit :mad about it but will wait for the transaction to be complete before giving a final opinion.

Please post your experience...

Make sure you buy a jar of vaseline to go with your purchase to pay for shipping.

You should be able to get the same price from your local dealer. I only use gmpartsdirect to look up part numbers :D

:iagree: try chris at superior chevrolet. Their prices appear a little higher but once you pay the outrageously inflated shipping with gmpartsdirect, Superior is actually cheaper. His number is 800-728-8267

Yes, I noticed the shipping, although it goes down as you add items. By the time I got the 6 items I wanted, (all small parts I might add) the last 2 items were only .45 each for shipping. I also tried local dealer, the wrong guy was at the counter & just looked at me like I was crazy or something. Dumb butt would rather make no sale instead of making at least some $...

If you went to a local dealer, you would need the vaseline to make the price difference feel better.

That's not true. If you know the parts guy you can get cost. It's also a added plus for me, as buying the parts in oregon, there is no sales tax.

I tried ordering from them once (a year ago). I was short on time, and the ordering system gliched. Then I realized they did not list a phone number. (Maybe they list a phone number now, I don't know - I also only use their site to look up parts now.) Because I then had to use email to resolve the situation, it took too long and I was forced to buy elswhere while still unsure of the status of my oreder with GMPartsDirect. I informed them through email I find not listing a phone # for customer service to be irresponsible and not a move that inspires trust - they didn't like that.

Yeah, still no phone number on site... They email support responses I got were pretty lame too. Must pass credit card security for our customers safety blah blah blah but not a bit of help on why my particular card couldn't be used. Most likely 30 seconds of human intervention to see that PO Box was or was not in CAPS??? A huge load of :bs imho.

I ordered parts from there once with a credit card. Had no problem. Mabey I was lucky. I did have to wait until I had a few things to make the shipping spread out though. For one small item, it is not worth it.

As far as internet shopping goes, GM Parts Direct is the cheapest I've found. Even with the shipping, but you must remember it isn't the shipping that costs, it's the handling.

I have yet to find anyone cheaper. I mean where else can you place an order at 3:00am?

Nothing but great experiences with them.

Locally you may do better, but as far as the 'net, show me where you can do better and I'll change my tune.

I gotta throw in a vote for Superior Chevy. Chris, and Jeff before him, are knowledgeable, efficient, and nice to work with. Prices are better than my local dealers, and better than most vendors. Shipping has always seemed fair. There may be cheaper out there, but none more reliable.
A very satisfied repeat customer.

Have you tried PacePerformance. I used them and they had good customer service, I didn't use GM parts direct because they didn't list a phone number.

After a bunch of price shopping I ordered the majority of my LT1 to LT4/Hotcam conversion stuff from GM Parts Direct.

Even with their "seemingly" high priced shipping it worked out to be cheaper than most alternatives. I will have to say that their pricing scheme seems to work out better if your order is bigger on the buck side.

They did ship all my (many) items quickly and were packaged well. I've no complaints.

Don't let the shipping charges fool 'ya. Look at the bottom line. GM Parts Direct is pretty darn competitive in the price department.

If you'd like a more personal touch, I've read here in the forum that Superior Chevrolet and Pace are the guys to deal with. I've ordered a piece or two from each and had no problems.

I have not dealt with Pace, and Superior isn't available over the internet(last time I checked anyway) so GM Parts Direct still wins for convenience.

Tim, I will agree with you on the search function, so what I do is go to www.rockauto.com get my part numbers and then get them from GM Parts Direct.

Well for me the shipping is WAY to high...

Example..

Fender flare for a 2000 Silverado (part number 88944402 )

GM parts direct

There price to me... $133.49
they say I save $92.76
SHIPPING $87.50
TOTAL $220.99

Chris at Superior Chevrolet: (his shipping is about $10-$12)

Hello Bill,
I would sell you #88944402 for $153.51 each.
I usually keep one in stock.
Thank You,
Chris

I'm not sure what's going on with Superior Chevrolet. I used to place all my GM parts orders with them. They were always cheaper than all the other online GM dealers (charged a smaller percentage of list price) (not counting GM parts direct shipping price game).

But the last time I asked them to quote a bunch of parts for me, I noticed that they were a significantly higher % of the list price. I think they changed their pricing to no longer give great deals to individuals. Based on those quotes, their prices are the same or a little more than the other online GM dealers. That's too bad, it was good while it lasted.

Well Bill, you bring up a good point. Who does Superior use for shipping? At that price it is not UPS. For a fender flare for a truck, the shipping would be weight x 2 due to incompatibility with the conveyor belts.

The GMPD price is high, but more realistic for a UPS shipping charge.

My guess is that the actual shipping cost would be about $40 for UPS.

Superior may not realize it, but a package such as that may get audited and if it does, they will get backbilled for it.

I purchased a wheel cap from them recently but I ordered the wrong Part#. They would not exchange the part because the price was not over their minimum stocking fee. I was not happy with them but they said they stated this in their purchase agreement which unfortunately I didn't read. Sooo make sure you got the correct Part # before ordering. They don't care if you screw up.
