If I can start by saying this site rocks. :hurray: and thanks Scorp for the awesome tutorial on u-joints, they are going to help in a huge way.
This is my first crack at a job like this on my car and I don't want to miss a thing. I still need to narrow the problem of which I will do first thing in the morning (bearings or u-joints or both). And I need to gather all the necessary parts. I've searched the archives and found very good advise before I get to involved......but I'd love to hear more from anyone who's done this in their garage. Like, should I change just the one u-joint or both sides or??? Any help would be great. Thanks. Anyone with a good Canadian parts store would also be a large help.
Re: Wheel bearings and U-joints....again (Irish Mike)
Are all your bearings and u-joints in need of replacement ? If your bearing is gone take a close look at the u-joints on that side. They may go with it. It's easiest to replace bearing with half shaft removed. With that said you could replace the u-joints and while it's out replace bearing. Get the back end up as high and safe as possible beacause your going to need all the leverage you can get. I got my bearing and u-joints from a jobber here in B.C.. I get cheaper prices through work. I have befriended the parts guys there and now i even get parts cheaper than when i buy them for work. I paid $200 canadian for bearing and about $20 for solid u-joints.
Good Luck !! :seeya

Re: Wheel bearings and U-joints....again (AGENT 86)
Thanks Eh! I'm just not convinced it's the bearing, and for the cost I really want to be sure before spending the $$. How easy is it to visual the bearing assembly for failure/damage, or can you? I still need to check for play in the bearing though.
Re: Wheel bearings and U-joints....again (Irish Mike)
Checking for play by rocking the tire at 12 oclock and 6 oclock is the best. Unless the bearing has exploded i doubt you'll see much by just looking at it.
