4+3, overdrive problem
I have an 85 L98 with the 4+3 trans. When around town the overdrive works fine in all gears. The problem is on the highway the overdrive engages and disengages on and off acouple of times then dosnt wana work at all there after. Any input would be great, thanks.

There are a couple of things that can cause overdrive to jump in and out.
1) Exposed wires at the overdrive relay in the engine bay.
2) Failing overdrive relay in the engine bay.
3) Insufficient fluid pressure in the overdrive unit if low on fluid.
4) Failing low pressure switch in the overdrive unit.
5) Frayed wires on the overdrive switch.
The fact that you say it works fine around town puzzels me somewhat. It works perfectly fine around town, but not on the highway? Is it only "some" gears on the highway? Like if you put it into 3rd and engage overdrive will it stay on? Then if you put it into 4th and engage overdrive will it jump in and out?
