Re: C5 brakes (96CollectorSport)
 I believe C5 pads are larger than even C4 j55.
I have the C5 conversion on the front and the DRM proportioning spring working on the rear and it is AWESOME! SOTP, stopping from 60 to 0 is down to around 110 to 120 feet. More imprtantly, braking going into turns is dramatically improved. I can carry speed much, much further into turns, then brake and steer.
Didn't put the C5 rears on since the only real difference is the thickness of the roter and, the emergency brake system is completely different
I just upgraded my Grand Sport brakes on my LT4 CE to the C5 front rotors and alipers and there is a HUGE difference. The stopping power is well beyond anything I had before, and the brake fade is way down as well. Plain and simple, the C5 caliper is a much better design with more sweep area. And for the cost it's one of the best upgrades you can do for the money.
Check out Superior Chevrolet for the parts to do the conversion: http://www.superchevyparts.com
They have everything at great prices!! All you need after getting those parts are the adaptors. I have the ones forum member edsalinas sells. Great quality!! And, you help support a forum member. :)
What's the big deal about these brakes that I keep seeing people wanting to upgrade to? Are they superior to aftermarket C4 brakes?
Well the big deal is that they don't cost over $2000 like most of the other race setups will cost. They aren't aftermarket either. Well, the adapter is but that is it. All other parts can be bought from any GM dealer in the US and you have a multitude of choices for brake pads. You can have standard GM, premium aftermarket, ceramic, carbon metallic and etc. Plenty to fit your needs and budget.
Will it stop as well as the Stoptech, Willwood, or Brembo setups? NO WAY!! But I'm not spending that amount of money on parts and pads either. Race systems are made much better and are suited for racing. I don't much race my car, but I do autoX. I'll see if there is a difference when I go do that later this month. A tenth of a second will make them worth it to me for sure.
The next time you go buy a C4 13" rotor for close to $100, I will be buying a pair of front rotors for close to $50 from NAPA (although the jury is still out on their rotors in my mind). I can get a pair of rotors from Superior for $100 + ship.
And another reason I got them was that they do look  behind my chrome Z06 wheels. :D
I need the brackets, who sells them.
I checked with a company in Tampa and they wanted like $450 for two brackets and some hardware.
Seemed way pricey to me.
I have the red Z06 calipers and eradispeed two piece rotors that were on a C5.
Additionally, I can't use the rear rotors (I've been told this) so I'm trying to figure out a way so all 4 rotors match one another or at least look similiar.
Also I cant use the Z06 caliper so I thought I would just get a spare ZR-1 caliper and paint it red to match the fronts.
Any suggestions would help as these rotors have sat in my garage over a year.
Here's the part numbers, and what I paid 4 them:
ZO6 (painted red) caliper, G.M. 88895128 & 29, I paid $81.37 each. The plain C5 caliper p/n is 12530682 & 83, should be cheaper, but they're not. ?
Rotors, A.C. Delco p/n is 177-852 & 53, I paid $53.06 each.
The anchor, or hanging bracket (caliper mount) dealer only, p/n 12455799 (both sides), I paid $27.47 each.
When you buy your pads, they should come with a "hardware kit", with 4 small rubber boots as well. If not, that G.M. p/n is 18039816, I paid $16.47 for one, that should be all you need 4 the entire install.
