Front shock removal ??? (FX3)
On a regular shock you can hold the top of the thread (usually has flats on it)while you break the retaining nut loose.With a FX3 shock you have the inner shaft with splines on it that are driven by the actuator to give the variable dampening.I don't want to put any force on this part. (Yet)
When I try to crack the top nut free, the whole inner shaft rotates. Only have shop manual for my '87 , not the '89 suspension I am working on.
Any ideas?

the outer ring below the actuator "cup" should have two "flat" spots opposite to each other, I used a pair of channel locks to hold it and then a deep socket to remove the nut. The ring will hold the inner rod still while the socket turns the nut loose
