Straighten out a paper clip, and insert between pins A & B? It's been awhile since I've done it, I could be wrong.

Then count the flashes on the D.I.C.

The pins are on the ALDL connector under the drivers side dash below the steering wheel. The A&B pins are the in the back row upper right side. Key off, insert paper clip bridging the 2 pins...key on (no start) and watch the flashes on the DIC (drivers information center). It should flash a coded '12" three times and then flash any codes that may be stored. Hope this helps.

How do I know which pins are which? Is it labeled? (not near car right now) I remember hearing NOT to mix up certain pins or it could be bad news.

Well this sucks. I have had a service ride control light on for a while now and tried to pull up the codes but nothing came up. :mad

If your car is between 84-93 and you have the digital speedometer use a pin the short pin's "A" and "G" shown in the diagram above. It should show you a code number on your digital speedo.I just got done checking mine

From the shop manual: "When a current CCM, ECM, or ABS/ASR fault code is present, the letters "SYS" (System Error) will flash in the trip monitor display three times every fifteen seconds.
The CCM is module 1, the ECM is module 4, and the ABS/ASR is module 9.

The ASR diagnostic codes can be displayed on the speedometer LCD by jumpering the correct terminals on the diagnostic link by the driver's right shin, under the control panel.

The ALDL terminals are labeled like this, as you look at them:

F E D C B A <-top row
G H J K L M <-bottom row

Get a short length of stiff wire and bend it so that you can get one end in hole A and one end in hole G (top right hole to bottom left hole).

Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the RUN position but don't start the car. The fans will roar to life for a few seconds, scaring you to death if you're not ready for it. The LCD section of the cluster will go blank. Then any stored fault codes will be displayed. After the display runs through stored codes (have pen and paper ready!) the LCD will display "1.0", CCM module, ready for further tests.

Use the TRIP RESET button once to display "4.0", and once more to display "9.0". Module 9 is ABS/ASR. All ABS/AST codes are stored as "historical" codes. FUEL RESET is backspace, sends you back down the list.

You're looking for a "9.0" or "9.1" to be displayed where you normally see temps, range, etc., followed by a code where you normally see speed. Three dashes mean no codes or end of codes "---"

It's not as complicated as I managed to write it. Jumper A to G, turn the car to "RUN", watch for what codes you get for module 9, and come back here and tell us what you learned.

During the initial tests, H72 and H74 came up but nothing showed up during any of the other tests. What does that mean?

The H means its a history code. The 72 and 74 are codes associated with the dimming circuit. Here's the tech info on it... http://www.corvetteforum.net/c4/dave8476/index4.shtml Here is the simple fix... If "SYS" is displayed in the LCD section of the instrument panel cluster after the customer installs a new stereo, he will need to do the following:

1. Buy (2) 1 kilo-ohm 1/2 Watt resistors. [Radio Shack part # 271-023. They sell them as a 2-pack for 29 cents.]
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the receiver.
4. Connect one end of both resistors to ignition power. (Yellow wire in the car.)
5. Connect the other end of one resistor to the purple/white wire in the car.
6. Connect the other end of the second resistor to the grey/black wire in the car.
7. Cover all connections and completely cover the resistors.
8. Reconnect the negative battery cable

Well that would explain why my head unit doesn't use the dimmer but that still doesn't explain why I have a Service Ride Control light. :nonod:

connect pin A to C on the ALDL and turn the key to the run postion(do not start). This should display the SRC codes in the speedo area. Report back.

It didn't do anything. It acted like A and C weren't even connected and I made sure several times of good contact. :banghead:

Oops, my bad. Connect pins A and C, turn key to on(not start) and watch the SRC light flash. It should flash once, then twice three times, then any other codes will flash three times.

Oh, while this was mentioned, do you know of any better images for those instructions? I'd like to bring it to the people that did my install and they might want something that's more clear with the schematic.
