While my engine was being rebuilt I cleaned up the intake runners, valve covers ect. I painted them with MADVET's valve cover paint. :D
Everything looks great! :) Is there a product that I can use that will preserve this paint so if you happen to put your hand on top of the runners while changing spark plugs that will prevent the oil/dirt from staining the paint?
I think your best bet would to be have the stuff powder coated. :yesnod:
That would do it but I'm not going to re-take this whole thing apart now. I just want a coating that will allow me to wipe off the dirt I leave behind but still look OEM. I want to keep this looking as stock as the day it was born but with a SC and NO2. :D :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
I dont think any spray bomb paint is going to hold up...I used a High temp bright aluminum paint on my valve covers,TPI and etc and it far outshines MADS grayish aluminum finish and it still had problems resisting oil, grease and etc.
Im experimenting with something now...you know MAD sells that exhuast manifold dressing?I used that before on my exhaust manifolds and just used it again(I have no heat sheilds on there so they look like shorty headers) and man do they SHINE now.The more you rub the shiner it gets.
I decied to test this on a spare intake I have...it looks brand new now!!
BUT the problem is,its too much on the gray cast iron color and I emailed MAD and asked them if they can sell this dressing with more of a bright silver finish instead of the traditional cast iron gray and they said they would get back to me.
Whats cool about the dressing is you can brush it on anytime a spot needs it and just buff it off with a rag or small buffer on a drill and it looks brand new again. If they end up making a bright aluminum silver finish in the exhaust manifold dressing,Im going to use this everywhere on my TPI.
I will take some pictures hopefully this week to show what the dressing did for my rusty looking exhaust manifolds.Im really hoping they make the dressing Im asking for now.Its not a paint and its a simple few minutes rub on/off process anytime you want.It can rub off later or fade but it will hold up for months.Kinda like a good metal shoe polish in a sense.
Im rambling...anyways,thats the deal with paints. If anyone wants a good paint finish, they need to use real automotive paint with a good clear that will hold up for years. It wont rub off as easy but is more expensive to pay someone in a body shop to do so.
Hey Jeff,

That's part of the head. You can see the break with the gasket in between.
