I have a '95 mostly stock A4, and thinkin' about doing some shorties.
I know some say it's not worth it or there's no increase, but I want to hear it from y'all. I'm not looking for a huge gain, just some extra power, and the installation seems fairly simple. the car went 13.6 bone stock, and I just want it to be runnin those low-flat 13's like I see a lot of lightly modded C4's going..
I am running Hooker shorties on my car. I put the headers on at the same time as a heads/cam package. So, it is hard to tell the HP increase. The coated headers do give the car a better sound, and clean up and reduce heat in the engine compartment.
BTW: my shorties will be for sale in February, if you are interested.
Have Hooker shorties, after dyno there was a HP increase, don't recall how much. Hooker were silver coated and look great. The Hookers replaced a set of Pacesetters that leaked like crazy.
I went with Jet-Hot's offer of Hooker Shorties with the Sterling ceramic coating at a price that was cheaper than Eckler's coated Hookers. I wasn't looking for big performance gains, but wanted to reduce the heat kept in the engine compartment as well as getting rid of the terrible looking rusty heavy weight iron manifolds. Results: less heat and better looks. The nice surprise was a better sound with the stock exhaust on my 92. But, I'm still looking for a cat back exhaust for more sound. Shorties are easy to install and I used a copper gasket and haven't had any signs of leaks. Just use 1" allen socket head S/S header bolts as the Hooker Flanges are thick.
from an earlier post it sounded like someone had leaking problems with their pacesetters? anyone else have the same problem, or was that just a gasket problem??
so far it sounds like shorties aren't a bad idea, but i'd still like to hear some results from others (like said before, with mostly stock lt1's). Thanks guys.
Just shorties are not going to bring you down to the low 13s. Maybe a tenth or so, but that's all.
The car has bullet mufflers, SLP CAI, and I descreened the MAF. I'm sure in cold weather (unlike the 80* i ran the 13.6) I could break low 13's now. So with the addition of headers & at the same time new plugs/wires (which have never been changed) I'm sure I could break a low 13. Not to mention that wasn't going to be the only mod that was going to be done. Plus i really want to get rid of those nasty looking manifolds!! :D
My Pacesetters leaked as the flanges were bowwed, no amount on tightening or gaskets fix that kind of poor workmanship... :nonod:
:iagree: I had a set on a ford truck, and they leaked from day 1. Reinstalled them 4 times trying different gaskets etc., but they just warped from being so cheap.
Just one note on the Jet-Hot Hookers, the first set I got the flanges on one side was not lined up correctly. I sent it back and they took care of it immediately. Just look to see if the flanges are lined up when you take delivery of them.
I don't mean to upset any Pacesetter owners but don't buy them. Not worth the money. Hooker or Slp are ones to get, I have had both. Becareful when buying used headers I have seen the Hookers warp since they don't have bracing between the tubing. I had to get a refund from the place I bought mine. Then I bought a new set and went on perfectly. Another member went through same ordeal and had posts about it. Just becareful buying used. If you buy shorties try to get 1 3/4 not 1 5/8. Gains are small but remember they all add up.

I gained 33 RWHP and 42 RWTQ when I installed a set of SLP 1 3/4 shorties, and removed the cats.
