Default A major motor problem or catalytic converter?

I recently bought a 1995 6-speed Corvette. I noticed what I thought was a possible rod knock, or lower end noise. The oil pressure on the car is healthy, and it doesn't burn or leak any oil. I brought it to a mechanic who diagnosed the problem as the catalytic converter. It is a metal "tin" type sound, most pronounced on deceleration. He said that something must have broken lose inside the converter. Has anyone else ever experienced this problem, or have any ideas? Thanks....

Sounds like the ceramic substrate has broken up inside the cat. Raise the car up and thump the cat with your gloved fist, if its broken up inside the cores is gone. I got a set of LT1 cats boxed and ready to ship if you need a set. Very low milage on them, <8000 miles. :)

I have not noticed any performance issues. It almost sounds like a tin can rattling around somewhere in the vicinity of the rear of the engine. It is pretty loud (you can hear it inside the car with the windows down), almost like someone was inside the catalytic converter with a hammer..... :smash:
