Hello, welcome to the forum. :seeya

Hooker headers seem to be really popular with the C4 crowd. Models 2149, 2151 are the most common I believe, somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a set of Hedman headers on my car. They are very inexpensive, about $110, but I've been very pleased with them. Others can tell you much more than me. You might also try to post this same question in the C4 Technical discussion forum. Very knowledgable people over there.

What year is your vette?

I have a C4-LT1. I just ordered an exhaust system, with Magniflow hi-flow cats and mufflers, Corsa tips, and 3" aluminum pipes, from a local custom muffler shop. Cost is $1300. Looking at Borla, Corsa, SLP systems, etc., most exhaust systems appear to run over $1000 for 2 1/2" stainless CAT back systems. Then, you would have to pay for CATs, shipping, and labor to install.

I went with aluminum pipes because they do not produce as much heat and are less weight. My 94 LT1 is Procharger supercharged and produces approx 425hp (360hp at the rear wheels - stock except for SC), so I need as much air to exit out of my motor as I can. If you're running a naturally aspirated motor and less than 450-475hp, then all you should need is 2 1/2" exhaust system.

Stainless or aluminum is definitely the way to go. Both will last a long time. My car is driven very little, and I want less heat, so aluminum will work best for me. And, it's less expensive. If you drive the car a lot, you may want to go stainless, but it's costly.

As for the headers, shorty headers are pretty easily found. Most run $375+ if you want them ceramic coated (highly recommended). Otherwise, you can find them for substantially less. If you are not in a hurry, you can find shorties here or on eBay.

I want long tube headers (ceramic coated). They are hard to find for a C4. I have found only a couple of places that sell them, and starting for $559, which ain't cheap! Since I don't have the capabilites to install them myself, I have been quoted $350-380 for installation.

Now, if you have a C5, headers (long tube or shorty) are plentiful. Same for the C3's.

If you want to do it right, go to your local muffler shop that deals with vettes, vipers, exotics, etc., and have a system built strictly for your car. If money is an issue, then you may want to build a little at a time.... Shorty headers, set of mufflers, then later add the hi-flow CATs. The stock CATs for C4's and C5's are fairly free-flowing, so they can still be used. And, the stock 2 1/2" pipes can be used.

Hope this helps a little.

I have long tube coated from TPIS, also not cheap but I will say they are quality pieces. I've had cheap headers on other cars in the past & usually ended up paying for it in the long run.

Check their web site:

Good luck & welcome to the forum!
