Well fellas its about that time of the year. Again Cork and I are putting out heads together and starting on another project for the upcoming season. I am pretty excited about the outcome. And also worried at the same time the car will take the abuse.
Its going to be a 434 CI motor
Built off a Dart Little M block
Forged 4" Crank
JE forged Pistons
Crower 6" Billet Rods
Brodix M2 Track 1 227cc Heads ~314 CFM at .600 lift
For starters my 242/242 Solid roller
Single Plain Intake, Fabbed up by Forum member Jeb.
30# injectors (sold my 24# to mistaben or I would have tried to use them)
12:1 Compression....still debating to go higher
Miloden Pan
ATI lightweight Drag Dampener (Cork call me I got the scoop on these today)
Our gut feel is that we will be in the extreme low 10s @130+MPH with the setup, and maybe if all the stars align push 9s on all motor.
Since Its an aftermarket block, forged pistons and billet rods, we might also tickle the juice a little to go quicker and well into the 9s, but then safety stuff starts again, so 10s is the goal on the brakes. :D
Cork and I have spent literally probably about 20 hours on the phone, hashing over the setup, mainly surrounding the heads. We think it should be another "proven" setup with ungodly power.
As always, I will keep you posted as things unfold. Sorta in lymbo right now with parts coming in from all over and should be coming into the machine shop this upcoming week. Jeb was given the green light for the intake, so I will be sure to post pictures of the "Final" version of the awesome single plane intake. The heads should be between Christmas and New Years
I have some great kids and wife who all sacraficed their toys/presents this Christmas to make Dad quicker :jester :D  Maybe they are just trying to get rid of me :skep:
I'll keep you all posted on the progress we make with our motors.
Re: This years Buildup Begins..................... (ski_dwn_it)
Ski: This seems like a "full tilt", no holds barred approach, why didn't you go with the World Products 454 c.1. block/ assembled engine? Or shoehorn the newly released (?) GM572 big block into the c4? Just curious. Who was it that said "there's no substitute for cubic inches"?
Re: This years Buildup Begins..................... (bigjack)
BigJack,
Getting there is 1/2 the fun. Plus I was not all that impressed with the writeup about the 454, that should have put out well over 650 HP. I think ours will put out much more than that. But the proof is in the pudding.
BigBlocks while it would be cool, you have to gut the car too much to do it. That is what I really like about Corky and my setups. Even last year, other than the motor, nothing is really touched. How many street cars without the juice run low low 10s? With A/C, power everything, seats, stereo. Not too many
It will be interesting to see how they turn out. I am sure they will be screamers. :auto: We are figuring another 100+ HP at the top, that just seems insane considing what the 406s felt like. This is going to be SCAREY
Keep the compression at a reasonable level. Pump gas is way more impressive.
Ahh, you have you been hangin out on the TGO too much lately :jester
Naturally aspirated is naturally aspirated. Race gas is nice insurance for anyone racing. Especially if nitrous is used. Keep fiddling with the stuff and you will find out. :yesnod:
Plus I like the way it smells  It turns the wife on too:D

Nope, thats just how I feel. I absolutely love the idea of a "street car" ripping new ones left and right that can still pull up to a sunoco, pump it full of 94, and be on its way to play some more. Race gas... yeah its nice and it has its purposes. I feel that it takes away from a "street car" though.
Then again maybe that isn't what you're aiming for......
Now I have not only my new motor to look forward to, but I will have to use the racing gas too, boy, now I definately can't wait!!!! :D
PS: Per Cork, looks like I will need to go with a roll bar next season too.
I know you are going to have some fun tuning my new beast next year :yesnod:
Re: This years Buildup Begins..................... (ski_dwn_it)
I wish DART or someone out there would make us POOR LTx boys a block like the Little M or equal. You guys with these big inch motors are leaving us LTx boys behind! I spoke to the World Castings bunch at SEMA while the LTx block design was thought of and put on the table it not much of any priority with them at this time. :cry
We will be the ugly 4 coming to the track next year :yesnod: 383, (2) 434s, and a 540 all kickin some azz
Anyways, gus the car will still be perfectly streetable. The same cam will be used and the bigger cubes will make it look/feel smaller than it did in the 406. The 406 was a beauty on the street.
85, as we dicussed before, let me have the car for a week, and it will run like no other. I KNOW you will need a bar next year. :yesnod:  Call Leo at Neverlift and get an appointment now, as his schedule fills up quick as the race season starts. Took me till the middle of the year, after I ran out of tracks, to get mine. You will be VERY low 11 in that car next year after we get done with it!
It was an expensive engine....but my friends LPE-434 uses 18* heads and needs nothing but 94 octane for fuel with 11:1 comp and 36# injectors. 640 hp at the crank and your wife/girlfriend could cruise it across country tonight.
I know you guys are hardcore racers, but try and keep "cruising it on the street in mind" best of luck.
Re: This years Buildup Begins..................... (89 Paul in Cal)
You're not gonna get a Bill Mitchell shortblock are ya?
Ay carumba you are gonna need wheelie bars now.
i am not real fond of mitchell or shafiroff engines ive saw first hands a mitchel shortblock and its not a pretty site there ballancing numbers are only down to 4 grams on there ballance job not to mention a lot of there other potential problems i saw
the parts we are using are all very high quality pieces to be able to take some spay
no h beam rods here

jay my car will be cruised from pittsburgh to carlisle and back again for the 7th year in a row useing pup friendly 94 octane gas and getting 22 mpg
now i dont know about the 22 mpg this time tho
but the crank hp should be between 620-650 hp at under 6500 rpm
