Service Engine Soon Light
What are the possible sources of an intermittent display of the SES light on the center display of my '90 C4 L98 A4?
The engine was given a complete maintenance tune-up with new plugs, wires, distributor parts, and ECM/PCM replaced last summer at 110K miles. This service was done personally by someone who is in the Corvette Museum Hall of Fame.
The car now has 123K on the clock. I just got done with a 4K cross country road trip a week ago. The engine runs great. No other symptoms. Gas mileage is fine. The oil probably needs to be changed. Mobil 1 Synthetic has 5K on it from the recent road trip. The air filter is probably due. That was 18K ago.
There are no symptoms of problems on the dash. Could a dirty air filter cause the intermittent display of the light? The light just began to appear last night. No previous history of problems.

Re: Service Engine Soon Light (tjwong)
If the problem persists, or regardless for that matter, I want to get a scan device attached and check for codes. I noticed the SES light one time last summer. Then one time momentarily on my trip last week. However, last night and this morning it has come on and gone off several times. My only real concern is whether the head gaskets are healthy. Just a phobia from previous experience with other cars. The oil seems clean. The coolant seems clean. No evidence of cross over. The engine starts on first engagement of the ignition every time. No evidence of problems. No guages, etc.
