Hey im new to this site, i have a 96 LT4. Im goin to be getting exhaust soon so i was thinking get that mid chamber removed and run straight pipes to some flowmasters, and i probably will get a cutout as well. does anyone have flows and are they impressed? another question is should i get a pipe welded on that connects the dual exhaust ? i think its called an Xpipe or crossover tube, is it to even flow or exhaust pulses?? BTW i can get this all done for 350 dollars.. :)
You'll get lots of help on this one. Remove the reasonator, under the passenger section, replace with an x-pipe. Then depending on how loud you want to go replace the muffs with either Corsa's, Magnaflows, muff elims, etc.

Re: Exhaust (CaliforniaVette)
Howdy
Stick around and read alot. There is a plethra of information floating around these posts. Bad news is; the search engine is broken, good news is; you'll find more info here than you can imagine.
Never hurts to ask a question. That is of course, you know how to release your parking brake. :lolg: (You had to be there)
Your resonator is what you are thinking of removing. One note about that resonator I doubt there is going to be any gains to be had by removing it. Other than gaining a lot of in cabin resonance especially if you are thinking about installing a set of Flowmasters. The resonator is a 2.75" straight through core muffler. There is little to no backpressure from there. Just adding a set of rear mufflers will be the best thing you should do and save yourself the resonance problem. Now if the whole idea is to make the car loud then by all means remove it. I think Flowmaster makes a set of rear mufflers for the LT1 C4s. In any case any competent muffler shop should be able to install a set of 3" single inlet/dual 2.50" outlet mufflers with a set of additional chrome tips doing within your budget should be close.
I did close to what you're talking about, except I went with Magnaflows. I don't like the way flowmasters sound (everything sounds like everyone else's 5.0 mustang) :nonod: . However, after having the magnaflows put on, I wasn't happy with how quiet it was, and immediately had the resonator pulled. It made a significant volume difference...for the good. If you do a search, you can find some sound clips of member's cars with diferent set ups. You might find something else you like. Good luck and welcome.
Mine: Magnaflows - no resonator (Please excuse the steam and throwout bearing)
Hey, no offense but yours sounds more like a Mustang than my 86 with Flowmasters Cat back. I like the Flowmasters better although there is a bit of resonance under mild acceleration but very quiet at cruise.
The search engine isn't broke, just not working to 100%(you have to know exactly what you are looking for and fill in as many details as possible).
I wouldn't put cutouts on a stock vehicle, it will make the car sound like crap and only slow you down(how do I know?because I drove around with an open exhaust and it was a slug).
Cheapest thing to do is to leave the center resonator and cut off the rear mufflers and replace with straight pipes and reuse your tips. That will give you a great sound(slight loss in power, but not enough to really make a difference). But your idea of an X pipe and Flowmasters is good, but it will be very loud.
How much of a price difference is Magnaflow compared to FLowmaster? yea i dont think im goin to go with a cutout... thats more of a Camaro thing i guess! haha :chevy
