Anybody out there have recommendations for quality, resonably priced shops in the vicinity of Manhattan Beach/ Torrance (Southern California) to rebuild the power steering unit on an '89 Corvette. I'm trying to keep the car original, so I'm not intereseted in an exchange or new unit.
This whine is not getting better with age................
Cant help you with the location but you have another option...Get some new parts and SAVE the old parts and get them rebuilt later, unless youre dead set to show the car in the shows soon. That way you can drive the car everywhere.

My experience with power steeing, is that the whine comes from the pump. A rack with morning sickness (which progresses into all day sickness) is hard to steer, but not particularly noisy. Good luck, and...
NAPA autoparts has the best pumps for the lowest price. :seeya They also have the tool to get the pully off, which is impossible without the tool. :seeya
:iagree:
Buy a rebuilt pump.
I don't think there are any serial numbers to say it has been changed :D

That seems true...I bought a few rebuilt pumps for my other GM cars over the years and they never looked any different or had markings the stock ones did...however,the thick black paint thats used by the rebuild companies can give it away to a trained eye knowing where to look.
Napa or GM rebuilt pumps are excellent to use.Just compare core charges if moneys the issue and youre going to keep old parts.
