"Outside temperature" readout on the dash...
My "outside Temp" readout on my auto climate control (92 LT-1) was stuck on 44 degrees today even as the temp climbed in the afternoon. After a couple hours, it suddenly started reading accurately again and quickly rose to 65. Is there a connection on the sensor that may be loose? where is it located under the hood. Any other suggestions? Thanks - and OH YEAH, MERRY XMAS TO ALL!

Mine did that a few times this past summer, too. It'd be around 90 out, and it was reading 15 degrees, then it would slowly climb up... A few members told me the sensor was probably bad, or going bad.

the temp readout will only update the screen once you have drive over 45mph for 1.5 miles... there is another condition, but I don't remember... its time based...

I also wonder if these sensors can sometimes be functiong fine but just reading blind because of the dirt that builds up on them.Wonder if they can be sprayed with a sensor safe electrical parts cleaner?Mine has worked fine for years and the sensor has never been changed since 86,but I noticed its got quite of bit of dirt/dust build up around it...just wondering if anyone tried cleaning theirs?

The temperature readout on my '92 was doing the same thing; it would occasionally "stick" on one temperature for a while. I cleaned the sensor and that seems to have helped. I cleaned mine when I removed it with the radiator shroud when I cleaned the radiator. That way I could easily get to the front and back, but I'm sure removal of the sensor is not necessary. I cleaned it with cotton swabs dipped in clean water. It was a lot more dirty than it looked. I think it was helpful to clean both front and back.
Since cleaning the sensor, I haven't noticed the readout stick like it used to, so I think that might have helped.
