I got my 86 torn down to the block.Im planning
new intake base and large runners plus slightly ported and highly polished 113,s My question is about the cam ,I have the standard 700r4 with stock converter.I would like a little lope for just weekend street fun.Any ideas ?Also I want to stay with a flat tappit.
Along with slightly ported #113s you might do a 3 or 5 angle valve job, 2.00"/1.55" valves, 7/16" studs with hardened guides & pushrods, 1.6:1 ProMagnum RRs for 7/16" studs, Ti retainers with 10deg locks, TPIS springs and a LPE 74213 cam for a choppy idle or LPE 74212 cam for a smoother idle.
For the intake an ACCEL base with AS&M runners will extend top end with lots of low end torque too.
After that engine is in and running you may want to go to a 2,000rpm TC and raise the shift points to close to 6k RPM.
BTW, what kind of exhaust system will go with that engine?
Any lopey idle is going to take some custom tuning on your PROM. I would use the LPE 74212 cam. It has a slight lope but is usable with your intake. It is designed for the to work with the TPI or the super ram set up and stock converter set up. The nice thing about using one of these cams is that they are tested on the L98 engine design so they work as advertised.
