The Castrol stuff is synthetic -- GM is Dino oil. If it's a normal driver, the GM stuff is just fine. If you do any racing (especially roadracing), definitely go with Castrol. It holds up much better to sustained high temps.
You can get the BMW fluid at any BMW dealer, tell them you are a club member and it's about 50% off.
It made my 90K mile ZF6 shift much, much better, and the effect has lasted 2-3 months so far.

50% off!!! what? a club member... of this forum or of an actual vette club.
Actually...I work with a guy who is in the BMW club of America. He told me about his tip. He has been in there several times without his car and just said "Does that include the club discount" and they set him up. So I tried it, although I don't own any German cars or belong to their club. Worked like a charm, I couldn't believe the discount! I posted about it here earlier, and evidently some dealerships have higher markups than others, but my bill for 3 liters (roughly 3 qts) when from near $50 to $21.

I have used both the factory oil and the RedLine. At present time I have the RedLine in. The RedLine is recomended by Doug Rippie Motorsports. While I don't put many miles on in a year, I do club race about 4 times a year. So far no problems.
It seems that the Castrol is the hot one to use now.
