How's the cold land of Indiana? I grew up in Terrible Haute.
I sell Ease OBD1 and OBD2 scan tools for the laptop. A good scan tool is an invaluable resource for any Vette owner, but the more sofisticated (and expensive) ones are sometimes more than a lot of owners need, so I'm not going to tell you you need an Ease scan tool. If you are ever interested though, check out the Ease web site at http://www.obd2.com. I give a discount of 10% to CF members who order from me.
As to your original question, you don't say what scan tool programs you have installed and what hardware/operating system you are using so it is hard to give accurate advice. Like most scan tool programs, the Ease tool uses the RS232 serial port to communicate withe the vehicle. For users with newer laptops that only have USB ports in place of a serial port, Ease sells an excellent quality USB-to-serial converter cable. Ease Tech. Support told me that in their tests the Radio Shack USB-to-serial converter cable performed just about as well and was the best performing USB-to-serial cable for a low price. For my Ease customers who don't want to fork out $50 for the Ease brand cable I recommend the Radio Shack unit. No complaints so far. Hope that helps.
