I'm in the process of selling my 1990 Coupe. The initial horsepower rating from factory was 245hp. However, there were some (mine included) that had a higher rating of 250hp. Does anyone know why? The buyer is questioning this and I can't remember the reason. Something tells me the exhaust was different in mine that created the additional 5hp.
I got a vert with the performance axel. How do i know if if got the extra 5? I always assumed it had 245 just cause its a vert. It had the exhaust with the one false outlet mufflers and 2" rear y. Even though i modified the car slightly for more power, im still curious.
Re: Quick answer needed on an 1990 L98 (1990CORVETTE)
I ordered my 1990 from the factory and saw it built, so I speak from experience of an original owner/buyer. The answer is as many have said, a less restrictive exhaust came with the performance axle (3.07). It says on the window sticker 250HP. The mufflers did indeed have one fake pipe and one working on each of the dual mufflers. I noticed improved seat-of pants feel, when I took those less restrictive mufflers off and replaced with targa mufflers (but loud). I eventually changed to Borla mufflers that changed the sound to another different level. However if you dyno the car, you will discover that the HP figure is really a flywheel number, so I have no Idea why the muffler change is worth 5 more HP over a flywheel

"It says on the window sticker 250HP"
Funny the window sticker for my 1990 (w/G92 3.07 ratio) does NOT list HP, nor does any other years window sticker for that matter.
"I wouldn't be so quick to say that"
I would!
Speed density system, new cam, AND an increase in comp. ratio added 5HP to the BASE rating of 240, making it 245. 250 HP was due to a less restrictive exhaust, which was only available in the coupe w/ 3.07 or 3.33 gear ratio.
