A Lil T-Stat Test.....
decided to test the stock t-stat before opening up and installing the Stant 180* $14 replacement...
using a CompuTech EGT to measure water temperature at the time of the stock t-stat opening, it didn't start to budge until 200*F
before i pull out the Stant, anyone want to chime in and let me know whether or not they know if the Stant is also going to pop at 200*?
so much for being on "spec", the OEM is off by 20* =\

Put it in a pot of water with a suitable thermometer and see!

Am I reading this correctly? You are using an exheust gas temperature probe to check the temp of your thermostat opening point? Where are you taking the water temp, from?
RACE ON!!!

the egt i'm using has a probe that i put dipped in the pot of water. right when the t-stat began to crack open i noted the temp reading.
and the EGT is a thermometer and is very accurate. :)

Re: A Lil T-Stat Test..... (steelwindmachine)
i got the modded stat in the car.. i went a lil overboard and put 4 1/8" holes in it =\
after driving it for about 10 minutes, cruising at 60mph the temps hovered between 166-170, and the oil temps reflected the coolant temps.
i suspect the car still needs a few more cycles to purge whatever remaining air is in the system.
