Drive shaft question?
I ordered new U joints and I was asked if I have aluminum drive shafts. I know that the half shafts are aluminum. Is the main shaft aluminum as well? Thanks for any help.

There shouldn't be any option for the drive shaft U-joints. They are a diff size than the half shafts, though. But to answer your question, yes, the drive shaft is aluminum.

Yes it is aluminum. They may want to know so that the u-joint caps will be correct and not start a dissimilar metal reaction and weld themselves to the driveshaft. The u-joints in the driveshaft are smaller than those in the halfshafts.

That question was caused by more "genius" catalog writers. Actually programmers. You can't blame the parts person, not all are Corvette nuts. The parts manufacturers know what fits what, but the software people suppling catalog programming to chains and association affiliates don't take the time to differentiate among pertinant information. The U joint people know that all C4 shafts are aluminum, but that gets lost by the lazy. I constantly get asked, what engine my '84 has? Is it a convertible? Like aluminum shafts on C4s, there are no options, here. I guess a couple of questions, too many, is better than one, too few. OK, it's off my chest now.
