I removed mine and machined the extra metal away so now i just have the iac and the three screws around it.Lokks much cleaner and removed alot of clutter around throttle body.
All of you guys said you didn't see any improvement in performance. I ran 12.90 then I bypassed the TB & ran 12.28 :D
Just kidding ;) I do ONE mod at a time & run it several times to see if I improve, how much I gained or LOST.. Bypassing the TB showed NO IMPROVEMENT !
I saw one guy at the drags who had a small round container in front of the right side wheel a little bit bigger than a cool can. He had a 12v RV pump hooked to it a switch was on his dash to turn it on and off. He filled the can with water and ice. He ran one line into the Throttle Body and one coming out when he turned the pump on it made a constant flow of cold water going through the throttle body. I felt the TB it stayed nice and cold. In all it was a pretty neat idea

I'll have this type system on my car soon, It can hurt.

Has anyone tried the same idea but with a 12v portable cooler/refridgerator stashed SOMEWHERE(???) in the car? I imgaine the setup above wouldn't do any good for more than a few minutes driving (Ice melts) hehehe
I did mine and saw a considerable decrease in the plenum temp!!! I also saw a small HP increase (seat of the pants). It's free! GO FOR IT! If you dont like it, return it back to stock!
On another HP topic, I saw a bigger HP / mileage gain in upgrading to a better ignition coil. I installed an ACCELL coil that I got from a yard sale for $3!!
Just from the coil I got a solid 2-3 MPG increase! My old origional coil could have been bad but the new one helped out significantly!!!!!!

That's interesting!
I guess one would need to do an electrical breakdown or resistance test to see if the existing coil was tired...2-3mpg extra sounds good!
The origional GM HEI ignition is good but has it's weak points. If you up-grade to a better coil and get a better ignition module with more dwell you will find a good solid starting point for significant HP! Like I said, just the coil gave me a HP and mileage boost. No BULL!!
One thing to consider; you can spend $800. on an aftermarket distributor and coil but, if your wires and plugs are not up to par, it's all a waste of money!!
There are many aftermarket vendors that offer better ignition systems A few that I seem to favor are: Jacobs, Accel and DUI.
The cover on the Accel coil is just that, A cover! You can remove the coil from the plastic cover without hurting anything and the coil is the exact same size as the origional coil. The accell coil has smaller guage primary coil wire resulting in MORE primary wire turns! More primary turns = more secondary voltage!!
There are companys that sell high performance coils that do not come with the gimic plastic coil cover. Either way if you remove the coil from the plastic cover it will fit like the origional coil so you can retain the aluminum plemum coil cover!
