Default 415 cui SR engine build up

What du you think of my setup this year?
I've been thinking that my heads and intake and cam maybe is too small, but then its a streetcar not a race car...

Motown block 415 cui 3,875 stroke
Eagle 4340 crank and rods
JE forged -21cc pistons 9.0:1 comp
Jegs 197ccc heads
Accel Superram intake
CC NX276HR cam 224/236 .544/.554 with 1.6 RR
SLP 1.3/4 headers
2600rpm 9.5" ACT convertor
52mmTB (will upgrade to 58mm when I find one used for sale...)

9 psi intercooled boost by procharger...

/N.

If you don't already have the block, you may want to look into a Rocket Block.

It has wide pan rails (up to a 4.3" stroke) and raised cam bearings (uses big-block bearing sizes).

Lots less work needed for the rotating assembly to clear. Also, with the Motown you'll need a reduced base-circle cam, which...depending on the lift...can seriously weaken the cam.

This is the setup I'm using on my 427 SBC motor. All the accessories will fit where they are supposed to, but it leaves a lot of room for rebuilds and improvements down the road.

Sounds like it will be just as fun as mine...well...almost :D

You got me on the supercharger...but I'll be seeing minimum 750 FWHP N/A. I looked at the numbers and can see 1000 HP with 5 PSI boost and 118 octane race fuel...have to save that for a few years down the road.

Already have the block, but I think I can use a std size cam in it...

Your rods will hit a standard base-circle camshaft...the clearance is a real PITA...

[EDIT] It also depends on which rods, etc...just be advised to look very closely at it.

I personally think youd be better off with a Miniram, but thats just me. Youre going to be making so much freakin torque it will be hard to drive.

That expected 750 FWHP is interesting; how about sharing the parts you're going to use: camshaft, head flow, compression, etc.

Thanks,

Jake

The crank is probebly alright for a street car, but I would definately upgrade the rods. Look for a lunati Promod. It's a lightweight and strong I-beam that is stroker clearanced, has capscrews and is realitively inexpensive...I think around $700 a set. JE Pistons are great. Make sure to file fit an adequate gap in the top ring as you're going to be running hot while on the boost.

The cam is pretty mild, but you're forcefeeding it so you can get away with it. You do want to stay away from alot of overlap in a blower setup, so don't go too wild on the lobe separation if you decide to go with a bigger cam.

You're going to absolutely love that block. Mine came blueprinted from the factory and it actually checked out fine...unlike the bowtie blocks. Decks are square and true, lifters are indexed and it's got a nice CNC'ed finish. The forged caps are dowel pinned and hard to take apart. Note that these have a recess to pry on in disassembly, so don't be using a hammer!

Keep us posted on your progress. sj

Cam will probably be installed 5 deg retarded to move up the powerband a little, the diff between this cam and a bigger with the blower is not much so aiming at a stable idle and good vacuum...

The car must pass emission....

Jake,

I started a thread in the motor section a little while back about the engine...

Rocket Block 4.125" bore
Crower Billet road-race crank 4" stroke
Crower Billet rods
JE forged blower pistons
Brodix T1 M2 227cc heads, flowed @ 321 CFM
Jesel 1.7/1.6 split ratio shaft rockers
C/R 13.5:1
Dry-sump oiling system
Victor intake w/FI built by Wilson Manifolds (just like Ski's, but these guys CNC the entire thing once the bungs are welded in and flow-match the runners)
McLeod Street-Twin clutch w/Aluminium flywheel
Cam is custom grind...I'll have the specs later this week. It has .760" lift
1000 CFM monoblade throttlebody

The engine builder has already done this motor (twice now) and is generating 720-735 FWHP from them, but they were built with the older T1 M2's. This new CNC program flows something like 15-20 CFM more air.

I'll need to get the drivetrain behind it beefed before it goes into the car or I'll be hearing expensive noises when I drop the hammer :cry

The intake arrived at the shop yesterday, and I'm taking the digital camera up there this week to take some pictures. Gotta get some shots of the T1's as well.

I think it was just over $700 for the manifold with the injector bungs welded in place.

The difference with these guys is they weld the bungs in place before they CNC the manifold. When it is finished, there is nothing protruding into the path of airflow. They also flow-matched all the runners so there is equal air distribution to all cylinders.

They are here at http://www.wilsonmanifolds.com/ My machinist says it is a beautiful piece for what we paid for it. Said we got much more work out of them than what we paid for.
