I am in need of replacing my rear tires. I currently have Yoko AVS dB's up front, and some different (apparently discontinued Yoko 285s out back). Yokohama does not make a 285/40 AVS dB, but they do make a 275/40 for, IMO, a helluva good price compared to choices in the 285 segment. Would there be any major problem if I go this route? Has anybody done this?
I know, I know... It is always most desireable to keep with OEM recommendations, but I have a "thing" about stuff matching. I can't run Yokohamas up front, and BFGs out back. It'd drive me crazy. Not to mention the differences in sidewall construction, characteristics, etc., etc. I'm not a racer, so those differences are probably a non-issue to me, but it's the principle of the matter! Ya' know?!

Re: Need advice.... (Perfusion)
That's only one size smaller and I've read where the 275 actually handles better on the 9.5" rim due to being the optimum size for the wheel. This is the size the earlier 17' equipped cars used on all four corners when 9.5" were used front and rear. Assuming you have the factory wheels, your car, like mine has 9.5" wheels in the rear and 8.5" front. So don't worry about it, I would do the same thing to maintain the same tire construction front and rear. When I bought my car it had different types of Bridgestones on either end and it drove me crazy too until I got my Kuhmo MXs all the way around.
Thanks all... I ended up getting them! Car feels much better now all around. I've still got somewhat of a little "shudder" at 75+, but on the streets is smooth as glass. :-) Thanks for the tips, again.
