Hi Gang, still working on my water pump drive oil leak. 94vette sent me info on how to replace without pulling timing chain cover. But I cannot get old seal out of cover. I keep breaking screwdriver tips trying to pry old seal out. I am afraid to use a lot of force, may damage something else. I guess destroying the old seal is not big deal, but afraid of damage to cover. Is there a better way than pulling cover? Thanks, John
I suggest pulling the cover and at the same time, getting rid of that manual driven water pump and go with an electric pump (Meziere HD) and eliminate that oil leak all together. But if time is a problem then don't do it. Lots of help on how to do it right here.
Are you prying on the correct part? I remember a nice slot that my screwdriver fit right in at. Popped out no problem.
Reinstallation will be a problem if you fail to use a 'spreader' so the seal on the shaft is not damaged as you slide it on. Very finicky. I used a cone shape whittled from a plastic turkey baster (it worked, but wife wasn't happy!). There is a correct tool out there though...
