Hey Guys!

Brand new at the forum, technically. While waiting for my apporval to the forum, I was able to browse topics and tech advice. Wow, you guys really know your SH--! Some things go way over my head, but strangely almost make sense. I am already hooked on the wealth of information and knowledge found here on the Froum.

In the past couple of days, I have been able to solve several problems that have been pestering me for months, THANKS!!!!!!

The only problem with the Forum is, you guys always know the best ways to get more out of these already powerful machines, which means I'll never be done in my quest for more HPs!

Anyways, I've got a silver 1986-L Corvette Coupe L98 C4 with Automatic transmission and aluminum heads with 80,000 miles. This thing is bone stock! I rescued it from someone that had no love for it. :(

The interior was trashed and had about 1/2" of filth covering the entire car inside and out. After lots of love and elbow grease, she's gettin' pretty again! I replaced the alternator and radiator, you should have seen the pile of debris when I took the radiator off, WOW! Luckily motor and tranny are strong and run great!

The only service I've done so far was at the dealer. I put in Mobil 1 synthetic oil, per topics from this forum. Also flushed entire fuel system and changed fuel filter and adjusted timing.

Exhaust system is shot including Y-Pipe. Been looking at exhaust posts from you guys, and a lot of people are pretty happy with the magnaflows, which I can get stainless cat-back system new for $445 shipped. I guess hi-flo cats wouldn't hurt either.

I would love any recommendations from any C4 experts on mods and performance upgrades. When you ask vendors, they'll tell you to get what the sell. You guys will tell us what's junk and what's funk. I love the honesty.

Anyways, I'll stop blabbing.

Thanks for having me!

CorvetteForum ROCKS!

A tip on the exhuast, plan on the whole thing, manifolds to tips. If you plan on going with long-tube headers(awesome), then your exhaust system choices will have to be different. The thing with C4's is pretty much, shortie(stock-style) headers are mostly for looks, but long-tubes are for power, but the do require custom cats if you are going to keep the cats. I think there has been at least a thousand posts on this topic so I won't go into it to much.

Thanks for all the welcomes!!!! :D

Kman: Thanks for keeping me focused.

I can live with the exhaust for a little while while planning for overall picture. I do want long tube headers. I should proably get those first that way I can work around that set up. Any advice on long tube headers for 86 L98?

As in welcome!

I like my TPIS long tubes, coated of course & with air tubes. That way I could keep all emission controls until I was ready to ditch em. :yesnod:

Congrats on your purchase/rescue and welcome to the obsession. Always great to have another true Vette lover aboard. Exhaust is among the most discussed topics here, you should be able to figure out what you need before long. Since you sound like a HP guy and you're starting from scratch, go with the long tubes! :seeya
