I installed a set of Comp Cams 1.6 Pro Magnums and have been very happy with them. They will fit under the stock covers, but you'll need to modify them somewhat for clearance including grinding off the drip tabs and narrowing the bolt towers. I opted instead for a set of Proform/GMPP valve covers that are 1/4" taller than stock. They fit with no problem and cleared the RRs without modification. I then sold the stock covers on ebay, which just about paid for my new covers
What about valve springs, should those be replaced on an L98? I know they're needed on an LT1. Even if they are new, your springs are over 12 years old, I'd replace them anyway.
Don't forget guide plates...should have them if you install rollers.
Only if they're not self aligning. The guideplates on later Vettes are they just for assembly purposes, they don't actually guide the pushrods after the lash is set. Not sure what year they switched over, but I thought it was the same year GM went with roller lifters and centerbolt valve covers.
I've heard that you can get by with stock springs on the L98 but I replaced springs and did new seals while in there when installing my ProMagnums.
If you use self-aligning RRs it's a simple operation of just swapping rockers, setting lash and trimming the drip tabs & bolt towers in the stock valve covers.
I used Halin Sharps but only because TPIS had them on their "garage sale" web page for cheap. I only upped the stud size & trimmed the drip tabs when I first installed but my recent valve job really showed how weak the old stock springs where & the new guide plates really gave much better alignment than the stockers. The center bolt posts would have cleared in the beginning if I had installed the new guide plates.
Have you tried to order anything from them? Forget online, just tried it, better have their $6 + shipping catalog. Can't even check prices!!!!! I wonder if there is enough price difference to offset their "handling charge" for their free shipping.
