I have a 90 Convertible that I am just finishing up. I have 383 stroker that consists of a Scat crank,Keith Black hyperutectic pistons,ZZ9 Roller cam,Stock heads that have had a ton of work done to and Manley stainless valves, stock TPI that has been slightly ported with SLP siamese runners, 52MM throttle body and I just purchased a Caroll/Paxton supercharger.
When I had the motor built I had no idea I would ever supercharge it and I am really kinda worried about the Scat crank and Hyperutectic pistons now. Any feedback would be appreciated. Also what should I do as far as spark control and computer?
Re: SuperCharger question. Any HELP PLEASE? (Sean Dunshee)
What is your compression ratio? Forged is ,of course, better and highly recommended. Usually Carrol kits come with a MSD BTM, which retards spark at a rate you set per pound of boost. Your computer would have to be reprogrammed to incorporate the larger injectors you will need to go to. 42's work well with this setup. How much boost? 6 lbs? What blower did yours come with sn89, sn95 or?
Re: SuperCharger question. Any HELP PLEASE? (Sean Dunshee)
Mainly it depends on your compression ratio. Assuming that the engine was built around 10:1, you shouldn't exceed 6 PSI of boost or 8 PSI if you are using an ATI system with intercoolers. Even at that one has to be very careful about detonation with Hyper pistons. Rattle them once to many times and they will break.
Did you tell Carrol the specs of your engine? If you did then they would have surely sold you the right bits and pieces for your application. They are well known to give you a "complete" kit. And most of these kits are made for stock engines with 10:1 compression. Unless they are ordered specifically for a engine intended for a blower.
Re: SuperCharger question. Any HELP PLEASE? (tjwong)
If you keep the motor out of detonation the pistons will live a long time. Whin the keith blacks detonate they break and shatter badly. The don't melt like a forged piston. Did not mean to panic but be sure tune up is right. :chevy
Re: SuperCharger question. Any HELP PLEASE? (Sean Dunshee)
I am really considering not using the supercharger now unless I end up replacing the pistons etc (but I doubt I will do that anytime soon) Thanks for all of your help!!

Sean, I didnt post to scare you, yost to make you aware and careful. I have been running the kb-135's for 8 years and dozens of nitrous bottles without a problem. I tune on the rich side and run a timing retard. Use care and you should be fine.. :D

Don't be too scared, you got a good kit and that's important, but you're gonna wanna just watch your boost level. I'm running 6-8psi safely and the stock pistons in my motor are hypereutectic. @ 10.4:1 CR.
