I messed up and had the Battery hooked up when I was replacing the alternator and blew the fusable link behind the battery. Has anybody had any experience with this? ie dealer item only? What size/amp is it?
Fusible Links are nothing more than a piece of wire covered in an anti-flamable insulation; The gauge of wire (fusible link) is always less than the size of wire circuit that it is protecting. IF the circuit is comprised of 10 awg wire THEN the fusible link should be approx. 5-6 inches long and be of 14-16 AWG.
The rule of thumb is 4-6 AWGs smaller than circuit protected.
The links say right on them 12GA for 12 gauge etc. I bought 20' of 12 gauge fusible link at NAPA last year for around $14 and just replaced it with the same length as the one I blew.
