I just installed my Exotic Muscle Longtubes and needed to run open headers to the local muffler shop to have my X pipe and B&B's welded up tomorrow. Initial startup, no issues, 10 minutes down the road I get a service engine soon code and the car started to bog down a bit while decelerating.
I asked EM if I needed to hook up my EGR tubes or if it was ok to leave it aside and they said I shouldn't have anything to worry about if I don't hook it back up. Is this common? I know its going to run a bit sloppy due to lack of back pressure, but I guess I'm just paranoid. AND if it is alright to keep my EGR unhooked where can I find an EGR block off plate for the rear portion of the intake, I have a temporary "fix" on there just for the trip to the muffler shop, but I need something to cap it off permanently? Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
Re: EM Longtubes Just Installed-----Possible Issues? (Mike Plummer)
Just an "FYI"...LT4s don't have EGR valves. The plumbing you're talking about is for the A.I.R. (Air Injection Reaction) system. It only runs at startup and shuts down when the PCM enters closed loop (this will generally happen in 3 minutes or less).
The SES light is likely due to no rear o2 sensors.
It may be bogging down because the operation of the front o2 sensors is impacted by the lack of an exhaust system. Since they control idle and part throttle fueling, when they're not happy, no one is happy.
Re: EM Longtubes Just Installed-----Possible Issues? (Mike Plummer)
Mike did this happen when you was driving down the street with open headers? If so, then probably what happened was that the O2 sensors being where they are in the EM headers, they got diluted and told the PCM that it was very LEAN because of all the raw O2 it saw from the atmosphere, so in turn the PCM poured fuel to it. Thats my take on what happened.

Hey , thanks a million. I feel a lot better about everything now. Hopefully all worries will be tossed aside after everything is installed properly. And yes (TJWONG) this happened when I was driving w/ the open headers. Thanks again.
