Well after reading a few past post and sending a couple of IMs to some helpfull members my motor is now out. I can say I would rather pull 3 auto pre 92 Motors then one LT1, ZF6 combo what a royal PITA. I cannot beleive some of the places these morons decide to bolt stuff like the top bolt of the bell housing having a ground stud that hits the fore wall so you cant remove it. The good news is it is out and you can remove a LT1 without removing the ZF6. I just followed the lead of a few others and unbolted the trany, left the bell housing on the block and it came right out.
As Promised
Old Motor just before I pulled it
Motor finaly out What a PITA
Next, My new motor, hey mabey I can have a rear engine PU
I will post pics this week end when my new Motor gets droped in. I love this motor, It got broke in in my 84 1000 miles on it so once my long tubes get here it will be ready for the dyno and final tuning. :D
I'm getting ready to drop my motor in and was planning to bolt up the bell housing and clutch before lifting it up and in. Did you leave your accessory bracket on, or will it have to come off? It just looks like one more thing that will be easier to install on the stand rather than in the car.
I removed it but I realy think it would be fine to put on before you put the motor in. I removed it because it is easy to get off and it gave me a little more room. If I read your post right it sound like you droped the motor out the bottom? If so is it easier then pulling it? When I bought the LT1 I rebuilt we droped it out the bottom but that was on a F-body and all we had to do was remove the strut bolts and it went stright down, we also had a fork lift handy and didn't care what happened to the car.
No, I'm dropping it from the top. What I meant was anything I can put on the engine while it is sitting on the floor is easier than in the car. I'd install it before lifting it up and over into the car.
I could see pulling it out w/ the trans still in the car. but how hard is it going ot be to put the motor back in? I would think pretty tough with stabbing the input shaft through the clutch & pilot bearing
I don't see why it would be any harder then if I was putting the trany in from the botom. I have done this before with other cars and never had a problem. I think the key is to have the motor mounts off the block untill the trany is bolted up so I can go straight back with the motor and jack the trany up or down as needed. Guess I will find out Sat. When i reinstall the other motor :D
