Default 86 Oil Pan - HELP!

I'm converting from a 1985 block to a 1986 style block and am trying to find a suitable oil pan to fit. I've gotten a new oil pan from the local parts store to fit the my application. PROBLEM: The 1985 oil pan measures approx. 6 5/16 from the "bolt mounting surface seam" to pan bottom (outside). The 1986 pan that the store got me (which they insist is correct for the 1986 corvette) measures approx. 7 1/2 in the same measurement. I think that the 1985 and 1986 pans should have the same dimensions. These chassis are low and this is critical so I don't loose the pan on the next speed bump! Can anyone chime in on this? Can you measure yours for me please? Thank you.

The approx 6 1/4 measurement is right for a vette pan. most others such as camaro are deeper. If you have trouble locating a suitable pan you may need to see the stealer. I bought a perfect used pan from contemporary corvette for about $40. Make sure that you use the propper pick-up for your pan. The 6 1/4 vette pan uses a unique pick-up that is somewhat difficult for the parts guy to look up. I don't have this number but I can get it if needed.

Who is the stealer? Do you mean dealer? - if so, I know they are discontinued. Is the Contemporary Corvette used? Please, can you get the part numbers for the oil pick-up? Thanks!

I did mean the dealer. I was trying to be funny. Didn't work! Yes the pan is used. If you spit shine the inside and it isn't torn up all that can bewrong with an oil pan is a possible bent flange. All minor issues. My fovorite place to buy used c-4 stuff is http://www.contemporarycorvette.com They can fix you up with quality used stuff. They have always been fair with prices. I will get the pick up part number but I wont have it until tomorrow.
