Default Power window problem

94 coupe. The pass side power window will not go down or up.....I pulled the panel off the door all connections are tihgt.

When I push the PW button I can hear what I think is the PW motor go "click" inside the door but the window will not move :nonod: the sound is not a constant click...just a click like the motor has power to it...but it won't raise or lower the glass.

Any ideas? Anyone else tackel this problem? What sould I look for next?
Thanks, Larry :steering:

Try this diagnostic trick: Open the door. While holding the window switch down, slam the door closed. If the window goes down , this is the problem: The window motors sometime have the motor brushes stick and when you close the door with a jar, the brushes let go off the commutator, and the window works. Mine did this and I had to replace the window motor. Now here is the decision point. The 94's have the OEM motor riveted into place on the window mechanism. If you want to just replace the window motor, you have to buy one from a vendor like Ecklers or Mid America Design. You will have to take the entire window assembly out of the door to repair. You will have to drill out the rivets and replace the motor. I did not want to do this and I took it to GM. MR Goodwrench said the window motor is part of the whole assembly and must be repaced as a unit. GM would not just replace the motor. So $300 later, I had a new window assembly. Others here on the forum say that you can just replace the motor and then you ghave to do the fix or find someone to rebuild the window unit. This problem has happened to many on this forum, especially the mid 90's corvettes. If you have to do this, there is a tech tips under the tools section at top of this page. Go to tools, select tech tips, C4 section, go down to" replace window motor '93 coupe".

My 96 is in the shop right now for that same problem. I got in the car the other day, the DS window doesn't roll up or down. But the other one works fine. So I park the car, then a few hours later I get in my car and it works fine. So I figured it was maybe a loose connection or something. I checked them all, and they were fine. So it still worked untill the next day. I got in.....nothing? No noise. Just the sound of the switch. That nite, it worked. It worked the next day too when i dropped it off at the dealership. I'm having the switch and motor replaced under the warranty i bought.

How timely - I just replaced the motor in the passenger door of our 92 yesterday!

Hayne's manual was no help... "Take it to the dealer."
GM Service Manual has the troubleshooting steps. Kind of lengthy for a replay here, but ping me if you need it.

Chilton Maunal was helpful for removal of door panel and mechanism, but Carroll Ball covered it pretty well in the Tech Tips: https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...D=57&TopicID=2

I bought a new motor from the local dealer for $112. Eckler's has them for $85. They also have the whole motor/reg

...for $200+
http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?d...U0KJUKTUG78TR3

If I had the time to order and wait, I would have replaced the whole enchilada, because swapping the motor is a PITA, and when you're done you still have a used regulator. You can do it, as Carroll describes, but you can do this too-- :banghead: :banghead:

See if the power window rail is still together. My window was faulty also and when i took her out, the motor was fine, but the rail had broken off, replaced it and it works fine now.

What is it with these '94 power windows? I've replaced both the driver's side and passenger side. The drivers side was the worst, took 4 times as long, probably because I did it first, but it also has more electrical crap in it. The only two tips I have is 1) don't disconnect the power lock rod from the door (way up in the corner). I did that on the driver's side and it took two hours and my wife's toothpick arm to get up there to hook it back in correctly. The lock solenoid (?) pops off the power lock rod in back...tight fit, but it does pop off. 2) put some masking tape on your side windows before you start to give you an idea of where your window is right now. When you take all this crap apart, it will be hard to guess where your window should be retightened on the regulator. This just makes it easy to get it close right off the bat when putting everything back together.

I bought remanufactured motors from autozone for about $42 each. They've lasted two years so far and no problems. If you go this route, after drilling out the rivets holding the motor, you can only use two of the nuts and bolts to hold the new one onto the regulator. The passenger side only took me 1.5-2 hours and I was able to adjust my window to get rid of some wind noise :smash:
