Default stock bottom end..

..L98 with hyperxxx pistons with 10:1 comp and ARP bolts everywhere. Target hp 420 at 6000rpm. Is that safe?
Or must I go fordge?

THanks for your time

Why worry ?

Go forged.

I don't see a need for a forged crank if you won't keep it over 6k for long periods of time.

The pistons will take the HP, but they will not take detonation. If you can keep it tuned, you'll be alright, but if something goes bad....time to build another motor. Have you seen the TRW forged pistons, they are fairly inexpensive compared to most forged. Check them out at summit.

If its stock everything, then the pistons are cast and definately won't last. If you put in aftermarket hyper pistons it, you might be fine, but for the what, 70 bucks?, you'd be safer with forged. The crank doesn't need to be forged, most cast ones now and days can rev up to 6k and be fine.

With 420hp, you must be doing some major engine work or adding NOS/forced induction. If you are, I would recommend forged.

420 is my goal N/A. Lt4 hotcam, headers, miniram, trick flow 23" heads, no cats. I seen these numbers before on Hot cam cars..

With those, you should make 420 pretty easily. But with what your spending on that, I would take the effort and extra week to put in forged and new rings.

Is it the original motor? If so, I would definately at least put new rings and bearings in, which means the pistons would come out anyways. Also if its original block, mine only 2 bolt mains.

yes all the bearings will be replaced. and ARP bolts everywhere. New pistons aswell with new rings. All I nned to know is if my stock crank and rods can take it?

tough call. the weakest part is definately the stock rod bolts. I'm contemplating a similar setup to you, but i'm afraid of 30 min sessions on the race track without touching the bottom end. If my car was strictly a street/strip car, I'd take my chances on the stock bottom end untill I could afford a forged 383 kit and rebuild.
