exhaust tip mounting distance question

exhaust tip mounting distance question
How far past the bumper do the muffler tips need to stick out to prevent the exhaust soot from messing up my rear facia?
My car is white and I get the soot now becasue the exssiting tips I am replacing actually do not stick out past the facia at all.

My single round tips stick out 0.5" and I have no sooting. Of course having new cats helps in that, when the exhaust is clean there is no soot. :jester

Is your exhuast system catless? If so, you may run into that problem anyways. My tips are damn close. Almost touching and I dont have any problems like that.

I have a new SS Magnaflow Catback with a stock semi gutted cat, I wold guess that if they were mounted even with the back or out a little bit farther would be OK, but I really dont want to have to do this twice, if you know what I mean,,,,,,,,,,
