Default Guide Plates/Roller Rockers

I have inquired and read several posts on the topic of RR's and guideplates. I wound up purchasing a set of Harlan and Sharp 1.6 RR's for my 90 L98 and I am still confused. I spoke to Harlan and Sharp and they only mentioned that I needed to make sure I had threaded studs not pressed. They did not say I needed to remove the OEM guide plates, get longer studs, change pushrod length or modify the valve covers. Whether this was an oversight on their part or not I don't know. I have never installed RR's before and don't want to waste my time and do it over or damage something. They said the 1.6 would change the lift by .040"-.050". This is not much so I can't imagine any interference with the OEM guide plates or valve covers. I understand the RR may be physically larger than the original rocker arm and possibly that is where the problem, if any, lies. I should receive them the first of next week so I will know at that time. I guess there is a lot of mystery and confusion about these things and I will be posting what I learn to help the Forum.

If the 90 model year is the same you don't have real guide plates and need to buy some, you also must buy hardened push rods. Yes stock valve covers need to be modified quite a bit to clear rollers. You will also need different length push rods most likely, would reccomend an adjustable push rod so you can measure and get the correct ones. I had to get longer studs but you may or may not, just will have to see when you put them on, you should have screw in studs.
