Default Low Temp Fan Switch

I installed a new low temp fan switch today. I read all the directions that were included, and wired everything exactly how they said. I have and aux fan and the directions said to splice into the F terminal on the relay for both the main fan and aux, which I did (or so I thought). The 2 relays on my 88 are located on the inner, rear fender well. After I hooked it all up I started it to see if the fans would both kick on at 200F, and they did. Then I noticed my service engine soon light on. I checked the codes and got a 33 and 36, both MAF codes. I didn't know what the hell I did wrong, I had also put in a 160F thermostat and had to take the MAF off to put that in, so I thought maybe I had hit the MAF or something. I took her for a spin around the block to see how she was running with the SES light on, and the weirdest thing was it was stuck in overdrive but the OD light wasn't on. Well needless to say I spent the whole day messing with it, finally I detached the new wires that I had spliced into the relays and the SES light shut off. I guess one of those relays isn't the fan relay. Any way she is running perfect now and at only 175F.

My vette is a 89, There are two relays on the firewall by the battery that are on the same mounting plate side by side. One is for the maf when the engine is running, the other is the maf burn off relay, You didn't accidentally splice into one of those instead of the fan relay?

I have an '88 and the main fan relay is on the inner left fender well just below the master cylinder and the aux fan relay is on the left of the radiator shroud.

You should only have to tap into the aux fan switch wire comming from the switch and run a short piece (maybe 6-8") back to the main fan relay. Just connect Grn/Wht wire to Grn/Wht wire and all will be well. You can even hide the new wire in the harness running along the left inner fender well.

Isn't there a relay for the O/d operation there as well?
If he has hot wired that it could explain permanent O/d operation without indication which comes from the ECM when it activates the relay.

What does this kit do exactly? Do you just put in a 180* temp sensor in place of the factory one.. and wire it to close both fan relays? Is there two different temp switches for each fan (since they come on at different temps)? or is the aux fan ecm activated?

The new switch replaces the factory aux switch. By tying the relays together, both fans come on when the aux fan reaches it's temp, rather than waiting for the ecm to turn on main fan at 228.

Hey thanks, that worked. One of the relays on the fender is the MAF burnoff, the aux is on the fan shroud. I figured the the 2 would be atleast closed to each other. Everything is  now.
