It sounds like you may have broked a plug wire or tore a boot. If that is the case then its more likely to show up under a light to moderate load. I doubt that you have another bad OPTI unit. Do you have access to a shop that has a ignition scope? If you do that is the best way to isolate a ignition related problem.
So, I just changed out my opti (old one had gone.. put in the new one). I start up the car, and everything runs fine. Only problem is, I am getting a blinking "sys." I figured this was because I had run my battery way down, while trying to get the car started before I changed the opti. She was idling fine, which was a relief.
However, when I put her in gear, the engine started to stumble just a tad/surge a little bit. At very low RPMs I get this stumble.. about a mile or so later, I get the dreaded "pop" from the exhaust. I am totally perplexed. Any ideas of what might be going wrong? It almost feels like when my opti went bad.. this would be a new one- Opti goes bad, in dry weather, after 1.2 miles on the road..
Well, solved it.. looks like one of the wires wasnt plugged all the way into the opti. I went in and unplugged, and replugged all of the wires, and she is running like a champ now!! thanks everyone!!
