Default air pump removal????

On my 89 if I remove the smog stuff, but leave the air pump for now what do you use to block off the pipe going into the side with or leave the pipe and cap it off. Can't afford the replacement bracket/pully right now.
Will it be throwing codes also?
Thanks again all  :flag

 Why not just leave it all together till you can get the right stuff?

Just sort of curious as to why removing the smog stuff without removing the air pumpwould be a priority.

Not questioning, just learning :D

My 95 didn't throw any codes, but that's a whole different set-up.

Just to clean up the under hood area and make it easier to work on. I don't have any cat's on the car anymore. So this stuff is usless at this point I would think. :seeya

Don't waste your time unless you get the air pump eliminator bracket.

Gutting the air pump is a bitch, the composite fins inside are indestructible.. and there's several other loose parts that need to come out that are hard to get to. If you dont get them all out..(the graphite pieces and small springs), they might come out at speed and jam up the air pump entirely.

Don't cap the air pump outlet unless you gut it, or it'll take more HP to rotate it. Gutting it is worthless anyways, because the innards of the pump still have lots of rotating mass, and I'd think this costs more HP than the pumping air part does, IMO.

You can just leave it wide open. There is nothing in it coming or going anywhere that would effect anything anymore if you have removed the pre cats. The air coming from the air pump(when the ECM signals the solenoids to open together) is to combust leftover hydrocarbons coming out of the exhaust port. It is to get the catalyst substrate up to operating temperature so they are effective. But since there are no more cats, nothing matters anymore. The only thing is to cap the exhaust manifolds as mentioned before. That's only so ya don't have a tailpipe coming off the manolds.
