I have an engine problem that seems like a misfire under loads. My 1984 Corvette was not driven for most of the winter. The most recent time, April 3, after having sat for two weeks, I drove to a friend’s house that was about twenty highway miles away. The engine was smooth as a turbine on the ride over. On the return trip, seven hours later, it began to run as if it were misfiring under load at about 65 mph. This became noticeable even when pulling away from a traffic light. This exact performance occurred earlier in the winter. After that time I put a product in the fuel tank to disburse water. Next I replaced the plugs, distributor cap and rotor. None of this helped. Does anyone have any advice?
you are driving on something akin to kerosine... the gas sounds bad.
I donno what to suggest... you could drain the tank, but that's a pain. depending on how much is in there.
you might need to do a tune up, too. new plugs at the very least. I am not a fan of removing and cleaning Vette plugs... they are such a PITA to remove, why bother?
remove the fuel filter, attach rubber fuel hose to the fuel line use a hose clamp to secure, trigger the fuel pump (a haynes manual will tell you how) and pump the fuel into a safe container. Be sure no ignition sources are around. and dispose of the bad gas properly. Install new fuel filter and new gas
