Battery Connections

The battery was vey weak when I put it in the garage last winter and I figured it would be gone by the spring and it was.
I put a new one in this monring.
On the positive terminal, beside the standard cable, I also have a second cable connected to the post. Looking at the cable, I believe it's probably a power cable for my Amp. It has a translucent red jacket and is quite clean. It comes out of the battery and goes into some kind of fuseable link, then passes into the compartment through the firewall. It is also covered in a black plastic shield. Both cable and shield look brand new with not a bit of dust on either, so i'm sure they are related to my recent stereo system install.
Anyway... The cable wasn't fastened well to the positive post, and when I was putting it back on, it broke off... I noticed the copper connector (a loop connector) had actually been cut by someone into a "C" shape and forced on the post anyway, so it doesn't look like it was ever on there really good. Anyway, I managed to wedge it back on there, but I think that a couple good potholes (which wouldn't be very big on the 84's suspension) could knock it off.
If it comes off while I'm driving and I lose my stereo until I can refasten it, I'm not going to be to worried. But could that also be for something else that they just happened to tap into for the stereo? I guess I'm wondering if it falls off, will something else in the electric system fail causing the car to die while I'm going down the road? That could be dangerous and I would b most unhappy :yesnod: Obviously, I intend to replace the connector and secure it better, but I won't get around to that until this weekend and I wanted to take the car out tonight as I had somewhere to go.
Cliff Notes: Fromt he factory should there be more than one cable on the positive post, and, if so, where does it go?
if you are brave, you can install a new connector yourself.
Phoenix Gold and Stinger both make battery post extentions that will allow for amp connections to be made to side post batteries. They are about 10.00 for one.
You remove your battery and install this per their directions.
This is the PG part:

Thats what I was thinking.. but I wasn't sure. I'll pick up that part you mentioned and install it this weekend. Fixing the connector doesn't bother me... I worked for an electrician for three years. Residential and Commercial service I know... car audio I don't  :D
